The reason I dont use 'pot' alot is because when I was young (5 or 6) and didnt smoke. My sister who is 4 years older than I am, told me that "Mommy & Daddy smoke pot!" And me, being the toothfairy loving, pop sickle eating, DARE Graduate, I just about hated my parents. So I've always tied the word pot to that time in my life. When everyday I thought the policeman was going to come and take my parents away, and being just about as paranoid back then as I am now. Thank you drug war.

My signature phrase is "How about we smoke some POT." with emphasis on the "pot." I think it has a nice ring to it in that context, but I only use the word if it's with emphasis. I never use it casually in a conversation, though. That would just sound weird. "Pot" is such an awkward, little word.

personally, i like the term pot better than any other slang. weed, is too common, everyone says weed. dope just has too many negative connotations. trees is the one i hate the most. it just sounds stupid to my ears.but i like to use some more that most people not in the festival scene know. like some good dank that is better than your average dank are called headies.

I usually avoid the word pot, just because it sounds too ... harsh? Brash? It's not as pleasing to the ears as weed or ganja or marijuana. And it is also the word most often used with a critical tone to it, I think.

So yeah, in a way I do find it degrading/unpleasant..

But, it doesn't bother me so much if someone says it with good intentions. Some phrases wouldn't be the same without it, like 'poking smot' or 'pot pride' and so on.
