| I've seen lots of terms and phrases for or regarding marijuana and it's usage, purchase, cultivation and so on. But osme of the phrases that are used today seem to be wrong in their context. I'm just wondering if my thinking on these terms/phrases is correct and how they're defined by others. Maybe it's a regional thing. Hydro or 'Dro refers to the method of cultivation: Hydroponics, meaning it's grown without soil. In my eyes this doesn't indicate quality bud or seedless bud, although I've seen many people use the term that way. Although a grower that goes to great lengths to have a hydroponic setup is probably knows what they're doing and is going to grow potent bud. Chronic or Kine Bud always referred to top-grade smoke. Now I see it used as a generic term for marijuana. Schwag or Dirt has always meant low-quality smoke. Where I grew up, that meant bottom-of-the-barrel Mexican garbage. I think this comes from swag, which is the free junk you get at trade show booths. Shake is the dusty bit at the bottom of a bag, usually from schwag. Brick or Brick Weed is pot compressed into bricks, usually for ease of transportation. Usually this means the grower is a commercial operation and there's not a lot of care in the growing. We got a lot of brick where I grew up, as it was close to the US/Mexico border. In my eyes it really has nothing to do with quality, although I see it used to refer to lower-quality smoke, usually 'mids'. It's obvious that some terms are going to change with the times. I guess I'm 'old school' (maybe 'middle school', as i'm not that old!), but it seems to me that the terms are supposed to have meaning, and that's somehow getting diluted. Am I just too damn picky to want a bunch of stoners to respect and appreciate the history of words and phrases? ![]() |

I've also heard KB referred to as crippy/crip. I'm kinda old school too, so I basically take the name references to marijuana with a grain of salt. You never truly know what you are getting unless you are growing it yourself, or you know the grower. So, basically, there are 3 terms I use now. KB, mids, and schwag. People can say it's White Widow (name used for example purposes only) and charge extra for it, but that doesn't mean it really is WW. Just that it's some kind of KB. Lately I have been able to get really good high end mids. (Better than mids, but not KB) Dro just means what you said. It was grown hydroponically. So what? Because a person uses the term "dro," doesn't mean squat to me. ![]() Schwag and dirt are old terms. Pretty much the same. A lot of bags I have bought have had shake. That's nothing new. Brick weed is another old term. Everyone knows what brick weed is, or at least they should. Most of the brick weed I have ever purchased is close to schwag. I have a 5 gram bud of brick weed right now I need to make Leary Biscuits with because I don't even want to vaporize it. I don't consider ALL brick weed to be schwag, though.

![]() Sorry. It's not you, but I can't stand those sugary little bastages, and really get annoyed by the term 'peeps'. I'm not a marshmallow chicken, I'm a person, ya know. ![]() And yeah, I remember lids. Unfortunately, when that was the standard terminology for an oz, I was too poor to buy an oz! ![]() | |
