I know that it seems to have caught on as a term for weed in general (or good weed), but my old dealer would always go into a rant every time he heard someone use chronic. He would say that chronic was originally a name for weed that had been laced (usually with cocaine), but not just regular weed. He would always get pissed when he heard kids use it. He'd call them stupid young kids
Is there any truth to what he said?

There is a strain called Chronic. Chronic is a slang for very potent buds and yes in some circles the term is rarely used to mean marijuana mixed with a OT drug. Generally speaking unless you're talking to a grower or someone who peddles OT drugs chronic just means good greens. But indeed it can mean that.
