I find that pothead is mostly used as a derogatory remark, but it is obviously all about context and implication.

I think many people see it this way because none of my smoking friends have ever used the term 'pothead' unless they are talking about themselves. And if you are referring to yourself then I don't really see the term as derogatory at that particular time. But you always here parents, teachers, advisers say 'pothead' and they just make it seem horrible

i prefer saying smoking is a way of life for myself and call myselfy a stoner, but i beleive that most hardcore stoners are very responsible/motivated which leads to stress which may lead to smoking more which leads to a stoner/pot head.

I think some people are still a little uncomfortable with marijuana because of the society we all grew up in, it's just a word people. To me there are two kinds of people who smoke weed, those who like to get buzzed/high/stoned/fucked up and those who are actually in love with weed and cannabis culture, these are the potheads.

Everyone at my school uses pothead as a derogative for anyone who smokes. I guess it could go either way, but I don't like the word

The first response uses the word burnout which I think it also defines - lack of motivation, no inhibition or goals - someone who's burnt out

I consider myself a pothead, and I think I function pretty well, I still have a great social life and I'm doing decent in school, the thing is I'm an active stoner, and I don't know about you guys, but I function perfectly, maybe even better than usual when I'm high.

i don't know what ya'll are smokin, but pothead sounds like a straight up insult to me. kinda like crackhead. when someone calls me a pothead, i feel like they're calling me lazy, retarded etc. stoner is a better term to me.

I get to know a person first, and decide whether they are just "somebody who smokes pot" or a legit "pothead" and the only people that i consider potheads ARE the ones with no life and just blaze all day. if somebody blazes even like once or twice a day but still is active and is hanging with friends or even blazing with friends, they arent a pothead. but if your alone in your room on your own blazing all day every day then i consider you a pothead.
