I usually call it a rush, most people around here do the same.

Most of my friends call it a rush, and I call it a carb, mostly because I got on this site when I first started smoking and picked up a lot of terminology from here. My friends recognize carb though, and I'll sometimes call it a rush. Never really heard it called a shotgun, though, although I might have a kind of fuzzy memory of someone we smoked with once calling it that on my friends piece, where it's on the front. This was during a pretty intense perma-stone week after he and I went out and bought our own pieces, so it's not really anything I can say with any certainty.

Always called it a carb, just because that's what the people around me who smoked called it. Never knew there were any other terms for it actually, though I definitely prefer smoking from a bowl that -has- a carb as opposed to one that doesn't.

For some reason all pipes I've used that don't have a carb tend to burn the hell out of my lips when hitting them.

I call it a carb. I thought that was the official name of those things. If there is an "official" name of those things. I wonder what a caveman would have called it. "ooh!" Shit, i am really stoned.

I've always called it the carb, and considered that to be the most "official" name. Like has been said, its short for carburator.

But I've heard shotgun a decent amount, and I've heard rush before too, as well as choke.
