Hey guys i'm kinda new here and new to this sort of culture as we call it so I got a question if you can help me out. I got a cool pipe that I bought off one of the links at the top of this page and I scored some stuff that came in a little bag and it looks broken up but not sure. Now the asshole that lives next store to me showed me how to peel a bud and break one up (I guess he's good for some things) but truth is the stuff in the bag is kinda stuck together but still I think it was broken up for me already. In fact I think he even called it a bud. Do you have to really break up the week to put it in a pipe or if you can stuff it in is it all good. Damn I sound naive huh?

Hm. Well, what do you mean it looks broken up but your not sure? It's either in bud form or what most of us call 'shake', the particles of what was once bud.

Well, you want enough airflow in your bowl so you can get a good hit. Technically it doesn't need to be 'broken up', or ground up, for the marijuana to smoke well. The advantages are that because it is broken up there is more surface area, so you will have a more even burn and larger hit.

If you leave bud in 'bud' form basically ends up you torching the outside until your pipe clogs and your left to poke around the ash to see if anything is left.

As to how much you break it up, thats based on personal preference. I like a medium coarse smoke but not too fine. If its too fine it often sucks through and it tends to burn much faster, that and the additional agitation leaves alot of THC crystals lost. You can never go wrong with 'pebbles' either, that is my preferred method for smoking out of a hand pipe.

come on, it ain't rocket science. just break it into small pieces, put it in your pipe, and light it on fire. i know i sound like a bitch, but questions like this astound me when they're asked time... after time... after time.....

I thought it was a good question for a newcomer...there is no such thing as a stupid question. (even though my 2nd grade teacher always told us that stupid questions deserve stupid answers)

I prefer to break my buds up into pieces slightly smaller than a pea, but make sure you stick a nug right in the center, because if you don't, you will just suck the flame down and get a weak, hot/harsh hit.

No it's not rocket science but this is new to me. If you were fixing a car replacing the fan belts is relatively easy but if you never were under the hood of a car before how difficult would it be? And beginners of anything always ask the questions that were asked "time...after time...after time...."

there are numerous threads about this subject... 'do you need to break up bud' 'do you need to use a grinder' 'how fine do you need to break up the bud'.... and i admitted to it being a bitchy post. blah blah.
