I didn't have any criteria when I made this thread. I was simply looking for opinions and experiences with wood. I only mentioned my glass pipes to give you a reference of how clean I like my pieces to be. Like brand new.

1 to 2 weeks without cleaning?
I can take a glass piece that hasn't been cleaned in that period of time and have it sparkling in 30 min. or less.
No matter. Glass is not wood Vic.
Like I said. Alcohol is no problem for your wood. Well,
as long as you clean it, not drown it...

"Drown it"- I can pretty much assume that you mean soaking? Then why would you soak a cutting board if "drowning" it damages the wood? Why say that alchohol doesn't damage wood only to say if too much (by your judgement alone, aka "drowning") it does damage it.

You are going in circles. Nice. I love your little add-ins insulting me by making refrences to my experience and knowledge by soaking a pipe for 17 hours. Especially when alchohol was only on the Inside, not the Outside. It soaked through the wood; and it evaporated all right; but not before drieng everything out and damaging the quality of the piece(severely, if the huge ass split has anything to do with it). If it just changed the color i'd be fine, I'd just re-wax it. But wax doesn't help when you can't get shit due to the fact of the split handle.

Dare I say it? MARIJUANA IS AWSOME? I did just say it didn't I? YAY~!

You know brother, no affront intended.
If you think that what you did is consistant with my recommedations (see my gazzillion posts here so far) then it's my fault for not being as clear as I intended.
I don't belive that alcohol specific to the "inside" of the pipe was the reason for the damage you describe. Too much historical evidence to the contrary.
But hey, we live in a world of ever changing circumstance and anything at anytime is possible no matter how much we think we know.

You may just have the exception that proves the rule, and again,
I hear your pain, and I'm truly sorry for your loss...

Well, I have to thank you for not yelling "noob" and just yelling that you are right.

I also base what I do on experience, thus I no longer "Soak" wood pieces. The Jack Herer pipe I have I clean with alchohol, but with pipe cleaners.

Even though we argue we can agree... on Marijuana!(bieng awsome)

Here is the culprit! Maybe a picture might help solve this problem. Sure is a great unique pipe. We both figured it would be a good idea to post a picture in the thread, so I thought I'd help out Vicki and host it myself to make it easier for us

Here it is

It sure does look fragile. I'm reconsidering, yet again, that alcohol may not be the best choice for cleaning it.

Thank you for posting the pictures for me, Spiral! You are a doll.

I had already posted the pictures here last year, but they were lost in the site upgrades. When I tried to re-upload them, I kept getting an error message that they were already here, and would not allow me to do it. Despite the fact that the pictures do not show up. I imagine there is no way to get around that issue, except to re-take all the pictures, but I don't have time to do all that.

In any case, the pictures show my Jamaican hand carved wooden pipe. This pipe is the reason I made the thread in the first place. Hopefully seeing the pipe will help.

Thanks.

Too bad it's clogged, and I can't use it anymore. I'd love to pull it out on special occasions.
