| I can't even get the clog out with a straightened paper clip. Believe me, I've tried.

| Pipe cleaners are shit for cleaning out ancient dried up resin. Trust me, you may as well be using a tiny chisel and hammer, lol.

| No shit dude! I have recently contemplated straightening a hangar as much as I can, and trying to use that to see if it would work. I really am at a loss as to how to get this pipe unclogged. |

| I don't remember if I told you this or not Vicki, but I figure I'd (re)post it in here... A wire coat hanger could be your best bet. As a child I lived on a Native American reservation in Montana. I remember hanging out with the elders one day because they were going on a 'gathering trip'. They find this tree, I believe it was a willow, I'm not really sure though, anyways, a specific tree and they find a long narrow thin branch. I asked what the wood was for and one of the chiefs said if was for peace pipes! Cool. Well, heres what they do... You get that wire coat hanger and unwind it. Stretch it out straight as you can get it. Now turn your stovetop on high heat and situation the tip of the wire so it sits within the element. Allow it to get as hot as you can, red hot is the best. They would take the red hot wires and jam it into these trees to make the peace pipes 'chamber'. They would have to reheat it (or just have multiple hot wires) and jab, jab, jab, jab. It would burn the wood, and make a perfect chamber. I think this could come in very handy in this situation as well (burning out resin of an old wooden pipe). Careful though, a red hot metal hanger is a deadly tool ![]() |

| No, you hadn't told me about heating up the end of the hangar, at least I don't remember you telling me. ![]() I just need to find a hangar (not being used for clothes), and I may have to have my husband straighten it for me. We have an electric stove, though, not gas, so I imagine it would take longer to get the tip hot. |

| An electric stove as in your tops are flat? It won't work. If its a 'coil' it will, if its a 'flat top' how could you situate the metal hanger to get red hot? I mean, you could set it on top but yes, it would take much, much longer to get red hot. You could put it in the oven or something, have one end hanging out while you turn it up to 400f. Situate the end of the hanger near the heating element and it should turn hot (enough) in no time. Or if you have a firepit (not sure how common those are downsouth, pretty common up here) just make a fire and set the tip inside the hot coals ![]() |

| Yes, but as I outlined before I would fill the bowl and stem only. The pipe as it appears in the picture seems not to have a finish on it though it could be oiled or waxed. Can you confirm how it appears to you given you can see it and I can't. When you tell me what you think I will expand upon this part of the process. Once the chamber is filled I would then wait about 10 min or so and take a long piece of semi-rigid wire that you can buy cheap at most any hardware store (even a lot of super markets). Keep one end straight and make the other end hooked, and start to gently work the straight end into the stem 1st and then the hooked end into the bowl. You want to try and get the impacted material loosened bit by bit. You may need to pour out the alcohol (I'd do so into a container so you can keep reusing it though hopefully it will become so blacked with tars etc that you'll just reload with a fresh batch). Little by little the material should loosen up until you cleared it completely. Let me know about the finish...
