I've added a shell as a mouth peace. It is supposed to tornado the smoke into my lungs, making it possible to take larger hits, since it is cooler, and more condensed. It hits so smooth it reminds me of a bong, infact, I have hitted bongs that where harsher.

My entire concept of all my creations is that I can keep on adding to it as I get ideas/materials.

I take it the stem is a porcupine quill then? and how does the shell work on the other end as a bowl, it doesn't burn or anything? I wanted to make a shell-bowl a while back but wasn't sure if it was safe or not...

I used fishtank glue, it is non-toxic (I even called in to the costomer servaces to hear if heat can make it toxic, they said no.), and it is rock hard. I am smoking out of it (infact, right now I am only smoking out of it.) The shell is safe, it is actually the most natural form of glass in the world. I have been thinking lately, I can actually use this as a vape, I can let the flame come under the shell and let it heat up the shell, if the shell heats up the weed enough I can then use it as a vape, at the very least it is a great smoke, and I haven't had anything better, not even a bong.
All I know is even if the glue was toxic, it won't heat up enough. I can hold my hand at the bowl without it being uncomfortably hot, since the shell twists I might aswell have the glue 3 inches away. It sure is safer than a lot of the stuff I have seen people make.

Wow, that is really nice, it looks as if the shell is shaped so that it makes a great "cap" It looks like it could be really hard to clean though...does it get clogged easily?

Well, glass is made out of sand, sand is made out of mainly seashells and rock. (mostly seashells though, seashells wear down quicker.)
I am geussing the silica is formed by the heating of the sand to the point where it isn't sand anymore, but silica.
BTW I think the only way I can clean it is by leaving it in alchahol, and blowing through it if something is clogged in it.

Seashells are not glass, seashells are made by calcified mineral secreted from a body part called the "mantle" sort of like fingernails (only fingernails are mostly protein). On a molecular level, they are two different things entirely. Glass is made in part by sea shells, but there are other molecules that make up the whole, and does not become glass until it is heated...so yes, glass is made in part by shells, but that argument is like saying the grass that the cow eats is the same as a steak...

basically, the origin is the same, (for the most part) if you go far enough back, but the process of heating changes the molecular structure in such a way, that they can no longer be classified as the same material.

Try combining 1 part rock salt, 1 part vinegar, and 2 parts mineral oil to clean your piece, let it soak, and get some of those salt crystals inside the stem, then plug up the holes and shake it a bit, then rinse in hot water, it works like a charm! It's probably much more gentile on the organic compounds of your pipe than alcohol is.
