Alright, so I was thinking... As far as I know, some of the vaporizers that you use a lighter with have a little ceramic "plate" in between the lighter and the weed. That plate heats up, and if used correctly, doesn't actually burn the weed, it heats it to a point where it would make vapor. ![]() That's the kind of thing I'm talking about ![]() Alright, so if I was able to find a little plate of ceramic, enough to fit the size of the bowlpiece on one of my pipes... And laid it over the top of the pot on top of the bowl.... Could I turn a standard glass bowl into a vaporizer like this? This came to me when high, and I have no idea where I would get a piece of ceramic to the size/shape/thickness I would need, but if I had a source for all the materials I would need.. Could it possibly work out?

i just saw this vape last night while browsing and was wondering the same thing dunno what kind've plate people would have available to fit on top of their bowl i was thinking of using a coin maybe but i dunno which coin would be the safest, probably none of them this "cool air" it speaks of.. that isn't a factor of the vape is it?

I was snuffing the bowl with a dime after I would take a hit... And I had the idea that maybe it could vaporize, if heated right? (Obviously not a dime, haha). I rethought this idea, and I realized there would probably be no air circulating to get the lighter onto the ceramic (Like, you couldn't pull the flame onto the ceramic). Seriously though, I want to know if anyone thinks this could work? I'm VERY interested in getting a vaporizer (all of the health benefits!), but ordering one online is not an option, and to be honest I don't really have the money for one at the mo'. | |

You can do with with a regular pipe and lighter alone. I have switched to vaporizing technique using the lighter and my pipe. What you do is hold the lighter about half inch (depends on size of flame though) above your bowl, and suck at a certain pase for a few seconds. You should see the flame SLIGHTLY getpulled down but not enough to touch your weed. You'll see it turn brown-ish after a few times. It's vaporizing because you are just sucking hot air from the flame onto your weed (basicly the same thing as the vaporgini but withought a thing to displace the heat). I think you also get less butane this way because you can clearly see the flame down not get sucked down and it taste way better. Saves weed aswell. The only thing the vaporgini does is makes it easier by not alowing th flame to touch the herb. The plate doesn't actualy touch it or vaporizes it, hot air flow does. The method with a pipe just takes some practice. Just experiment. I'm trying figure out if it's better to suck hard with flame farther from bowl or suck lightly with the flame closer. lol Last edited by weedidas : 07-03-2008 at 11:50 AM.

The ceramic filter on the VG also lets air through it, so just placing a piece of ceramic over a pipe wouldn't do exactly the same thing. You'd still have to pull air through or you couldn't inhale. Even if you left part of the pipe open so air came through, the air would all be drawn through that spot only and you'd get uneven heating. Trying to put a ceramic piece on it probably wouldn't help significantly more than weedidas' method. There are a number of other methods if you're willing to put in the effort and can put up with the large margin of error (and you don't want to burn anything if you are vaporizing for the sake of stealth). The VG makes it a hell of a lot easier and more consistent to produce vapor. It spreads the heat more evenly while also letting air through and protecting the material from the flame. It's a hell of a nifty design and it can't be reproduced without a whole lot of skill and effort.

thats an awesome idea, but i would be cautious for a few things. i imagine you have to hold the flame for a while against the ceramic to heat it up to a good temperature, and it might not be safe giving that kind of prolonged heat to a glass pipe if thats what you use, it would also have to be fully air tight around the ceramic, and the ceramic has to be pretty porus. im not a really crafty guy, so i would personally just buy the vape pipe stock, rather than make it. but let us know how it turns out if you decide to. EDIT: it might also be nice to use a metal instead of a ceramic, metals distribute heat evenly and heat up faster, unlike ceramics. but if you have a small bowl than i guess it wont matter. (also make sure that the metal is a stainless steel or alluminum or silver, the same metal that metal pipes are made of, anything else is unhealthy.) Last edited by JBone : 07-18-2008 at 03:04 AM.
