I have read a great deal on this site about different ways of enjoying weed. Many have referred to pipes. Being new to this activity, in fact i haven't gone there yet, i am curious as to types of pipes that are used, I am particularly interested in knowing if the pipes that were used by individuals for smoking tobacco is a choice or would i be throwing my weed to the wind,

I am unsure what you are asking but I have an idea, and please feel free to ask something more specific if need be.

Now pipes consist of a few parts.

The bowl- this is where you put your weed/smoking mix into, and where you light it.

The stem/chamber- this is referred to the stem if it is straight, and there are no places where smoke could build up. It is called a chamber if there a places inside your pipe where smoke could build up.

The carb- this comes in the form of a hole on the side of most glass pipes. It is used to clear smoke out of the chamber. To use it, you simply cover the hole with your finger, and then at the end of your hit, let go and sick the rest of the smoke out of the chamber, "clearing" it.

The mouthpiece- This is where you put your mouth on and inhale from.

Now pipes are not a waste of weed at all, if you choose to conserve you weed. You can for example, extinguish the lit bowl after your hit, thus conserving weed, whereas a joint continuously burns.

Pipes come in any shapes and styles, and can be made out of many materials, the two most common being pyrex(glass) or metal. Now many people swear that glass pipes are way better than metal pipes, but I own a metal pipe, and I have had a glass pipe before, and I havent seen much of a difference in harshness of smoke, taste or any other smoking variables.

As for types of pipes, there are three main types, dry "hand pipes", "one hitters" and "water pipes". Dry pipes, are your average, run of the mill pipe. Water pipes are any pipe that uses water as a filtration method to filter, and cool your smoke, allowing you a bigger hit with less stress on your lungs. One hitters, are straight, usually glass tubes, that have a bowl on the end, and a straight tube to your mouth, usually about two to three inches long.

These are great to use because the bowl only has enough space for about one hit, hence being called a "one hitter". Also, if you are looking to discreetly smoke, and are worried about smell, the only smoke produced by one hitters, is the smoke you inhale, making it great to hide smell as you only need, to blow the smoke youve inhaled out a window.

there are many types of pipes for a beginner you need to be careful i have told this story before the first time i smoked out of a pipe I was taking the last hit and all the resin and weed moved and i took an inhale of pure flame down my lungs was horrible

next day i went and bought a mini hand bubbler and loved it until i got cought by the popo they shattered it and my dad drug tested me for a year now i smoke again i got a vaporizer and a bubble bong for free because i bought them off friends mom and didn't get to pay them before they moved so there are many different ways to smoke it is just preferance

Yeah, tobacco pipes work just fine, but if you have smoked tobacco before in it it may taste like crap.
