I made a pipe out of a Mag lite (those metal flash lights that a lot of people keep in their glove boxes). The part where the light bulb used to be is the bowl and I drilled a hole in it on the side and glued a mouth piece on. It hits pretty smooth.

Maglites are made from aluminum, but I'm not clear from your post if any of the aluminum parts would get hot enough to give off any fumes.

my metal bowls both get hot and taste like shit when i smoke out of them.
wich is why i got glass since my other glass broke.
now im probaly gonna end up selling or keep as back up incase my glass breaks.

I smoke with my metal pipe all the time now for a couple of years. I haven't really had any experience with burning my fingers or anything, so I'd recommend it. I like it cause it's very small and fits into my pocket nicely. I usually carry my metal pipe and a small lighter on me all the time.

At home though, I like to blaze with my glass water-pipe.

You guys are so God damn lucky with your Glass pieces I have to hand cut wooden pipes. I made one today I think its a fun hobby. Ill post a few once i get a camera.

Well, I own a metal pipe. Got it for eight bucks at a headshop

Mine is unscrewable for easy cleaning, and it has a plastic piece that slides over the stem, in between the mouthpiece and the bowl. It would help if I got some pics up, but honestly, I have never burnt my hand using it. Even if I hold the metal part. I could see it heating up after say... seven or eight bowls, but it cools pretty fast. After three bowls however, it is only a little warm.

Also I love the durability you get from it and I have not noticed any metal-ish taste when smoking from it. I liked my glass pipe better when I had it, sentimental value, as it was my first pipe, but this one also has some memories on it too

If you plan on getting a metal pipe, I say go for it, it WILL get the job done and if its anything like mine, itll hit pretty hard and not have any bad taste.
