| yes, if they don't have anthing besides metal, they do get very hot and i refer to smoking a bowl to smoking a bowl out of anything that has a bowl (metal/glasspipe, bong, etc) |

| Usually a metal pipe has part of it which is ceramic or wood, or at least covered in ceramic or wood, so it doesn't get too hot to hold. The bowl piece will be hot as hell though. |

| Yea, sometimes it does get hot, but thats if you leave the lighter on the bud too long. Which I dont think is a good idea, with all the fumes that a lighter might give off. But if it does get hot, I put it between my knees (only if i have pants on :P ), because, thanks to my physical science class last year, Heat moves from hot things to cold things (like material that is a less temp than the heat) So I figure blowing on it is too slow, and the knee thing gets it cool faster. Always works good for me.

| Yah metal pipes will definitely get hot. If youre going to get one make sure that there is something around where youd hold it. Mine has a felt piece around it, and it never gets to hot to hold. Metal pipes are really nice if you want to keep the smoke down to a minimum because you can just put the cap on the bowl. | |

| I have a metal pipe and I find that it doesn't really get hot at all, only the bowl gets hot and the area around the bowl. its pretty small too, I love my pipe. I can smoke as much or as little as I want on the fly. |

| i have a regular metal pipe with a chamber and a cap. it used to get hella hot so i went to the smoke store and got another chamber, and a deeper peice. now i can smoke a bigger bowl and stuff an extra chamber, and the pipe dosnt get hot anymore either cuz of the extra length on the mouth side. im thinking about getting some of the other extra peices for my pipe life an extra mouthpeice or another bowl peice so i can light 2 at a time. ha ha cough cough ![]() |

| Ahhh yes metal bowls; i remember those days. Yeah we always had the 5 piecee threaded bowls, bought for 10 bucks and a pack of cigs to whoever was old enough to go get them lol. The downfall besides the obvios of overheating, is resin recovery as i like to call it, you have to be so careful not do scrape a layer of the metal off, or you're in for an unpleaseant headache. As most metal bowls have a cool hold as i call them, the bowl piece depending on material will get very hot after a couple bowls, sometimes to the point of burning your hand. Glass;glass;glass... yes glass. My fav. material. |

| Pipes are not generally made from aluminum, which is the only metal that has been suggested to have a relationship with Alzheimer's, and that connection is by no means proven. The plaques that form in the brains of Alzheimer's patients contain some aluminum but the idea that aluminum somehow causes the disease is pure speculation. Pipes are usually brass, chrome-plated brass, or stainless steel. Pipe screens are brass or stainless.
