So I was walking around in downtown toronto, when i approached a store called SHANTI BABA, which sold incense and smoking pariphanaelia.

I went inside, found this really sweet bone pipe, paid about 9 dollars for it, and the guy at the counter gave me these pipe screens and a box of matches.

Anyway, the pipe looks really pretty now, but will the gold surface of the bowl eventually turn black, chunky and start to stink? If I clean it regularly, will the wear and tear be slower?

Basically, I'm asking if I keep it clean, will it stay close to the condition I bought it?

BTW - What is the general opinion on bone pipes?

Elk Horns too. I never bunt a lot in one so I couldn't say-- but I know they look really cool-- once we made one and used it once every week but never daily...

Tell us more about the pipe. Can you include a picture? There are all kinds of bone pipes.

Does it have a separate metal bowl or is the bowl just a depression carved into the bone?

Bone will begin to turn a slightly yellow, ivory color with handling, due to skin oils. The inside will get dirty from condensed smoke and the ash.

I have used an Elk horn pipe for a couple of years now. Its starting to ware out a bit but it gets constant use. A buddy and i made them at work. It was great. got paid 30 bucks an hour to make them at a job we had to piss for. Best union craftsmanship i have seen in a while.
