My friends and I are thinking about getting a pipe, but I'd like to know how to clean it, just for future reference.
Also, what is resin, and why do people like it so much? How does one use it to their advantage?

Definatley get a glass one it tastes so good, and it changes colors a lot of times as the resin builds up. Resin is the black sticky stuff that builds on a pipe/bong from smoking. If you've smoked a joint and noticed the roach was more potent, that was the resin that collected at the end of the joint. People like resin so much because it's super potent, but the downside is it tasted pretty bad.

As far as cleaning i only know of 3 options:
1. Boil it in a pan with water-the downside is it's not easy to save the resin this way.

2. Scrape it with a screwdriver or something, but be careful to be gently if it's glass. you could scape out the resin and smoke it if you want

3. Rubbing alcohol just put some in your pipe while not letting any leak out and swish it around a bunch, pour the alcohol back into the bottle and refill the pipe with alcohol and repeat. Be sure to rinse it well after you're done. You can eventually boil the alcohol off and make some super potent THC extract. Just dump some alcohol into a little glass bowl(not your pipe) and find something to hold it right over the flame of a candle and wait for the alcohol to boil off, then add some more alcohol. Also, if you do this make sure it's well ventilated!!! Ventilation is very important with this method

Go to your local headshop and buy a bottle of 420 cleaner. Take it home and soak your piece for 10-20 minutes in the cleaner, take it out and rinse with water and you should have a perfectly clean bowl.
