The High Life

I've gone through several color-changing pipes in my smoking career, but never paid much attention to them. I recently purchased a new piece after my previous pipe was broken by a friend. It changes colors every time I smoke out of it. How does this work???

Well from what I can gather, there are two different types of color changing pipes. One of these changes because the heat actually changes the color of the glass, and the other actually changes color with the build up of resin after each time you smoke.
I think it is more likely that your pipe would be the later, and the reason your seeing it change color is because of the new coating of resin that is being added to the inards of your pipe each time you smoke.
There are some very beautiful pipes out there that are color changers, I know I'm proud of mine ( Izabella ) which is a dark purplish blue, with lime green swirls going down it's length. I have been working hard to get it to change as much as possible, and it is becoming quite good looking. Just enjoy watching your pipe change, it sort of takes on a character and personality of it's own after a while.

i dont really know much about color changing pipes.. but I have read a lil about em and I own one. From what Ive read, the main reason ur bowl changes color is b/c its fumed with silver and gold.. small pieces of these metals are vaporized in a flame.. glass is rotated over it and soon enuf theres a small layer of that vape'd metal on the glass and then its covered with clear glass to encase the fume.

Ur bowl only looks like its changing colors b/c the colors are often invisible when it isn't resinated. The darkness of a dirty pipe lets those colors show a whole lot easier. Everytime I clean my bowl.. the colors vanish..

What i dont know is HOW the fuming causes the colors .. maybe someone else does ...

Yeah you'll notice that cleanly a color-changing pipe causes the colors to appear to disappear.

The High Life

When I bought my pipe it was made of yellow-tinited glass with red and white stripes. Now the glass surrounding the bowl is turning blue.

Easiest way to tell what kind of color changer your pipe is to boil your pipe after it has resonated alot. If your pipe is clear when you take it out, then its the resin kind, if it isn't then the glass actually color changes.

Note: You can boil the pipe and drink the water that comes out, taste kinda gross but gives you a big body buzz sometimes if you smoke only good weed out of it.

Eww, i wouldn't drink that...

My friend got a colour changing pipe a little while ago, it's pretty sweet. It's now purple. I think it changes with the heat of the fumes or something.. Meh. they're awesome.

Just a quick note, guys, but most "glass" pipes are actually pyrex. The only ones that are actually glass are the ones that break really easily.
