Wood definitely changes the taste a bit, but I really don't mind the change, like I prefer a joint over a bowl even though a pipe is a much purer hit.

| I've only smoked weed out of a wooden pipe once, and that was a friend's tobacco pipe, and it had been previously used for tobacco (not like that day, but it's also not like he cleaned it). So, in terms of taste, I can't say anything, because while it tasted god-awful, I'm sure that's because it was mixed with the leavings of the tobacco. And, since it is a tobacco pipe, it didn't have a carb, and it was pretty tough to draw on. So, if you're thinking like a traditional smoking pipe like that, I wouldn't recommend it. But they make wood pipes with rushes too, so just make sure the one you pick has one. In terms of esthetics, well, no one type claims my whole allegiance. I like the look of a classic wood pipe, the look of carved pipe, the look of blown glass... I could go on. I like them for different reasons, as each style has it's own merits. No one looks "better" than the others. It all depends on your tastes. As I find beauty in a wide variety of styles, and as such will eventually have a collection that includes all of them. That being said, I DID choose a glass piece as my first purchase. I did this because it was the piece that attracted me most that was within my price range. However, I did decide to exclusively look at glass pieces, as I find them the most pleasant to smoke. They feel comfortable in my hand, and the taste is noticeably better. So, while I intend to have all at my disposal in the future, and several of each type, I plan to mostly be smoking out of glass, as I do prefer it in terms of the act of smoking. My only real advice to you is to smoke out of glass before you make a decision. The artistry- or at the very least the owner's like of the appearance- of a piece is undeniably an important factor, but so is it's funtionality. If you enjoy smoking out of a glass piece, then include them in what you look at. If you don't, then hey, you don't, and that's really all there is too it. And, even if you do, but you don't see one at the shop you like but you see a wood one you do, go for that. What's most important is that you're happy with your piece.

brownie, i will try to be unbiased here. at first, i really wanted wood over glass, but ive come to realize that aside from taste and breaking issues, they are pretty much the same. i thought wood also seemed more natural. wood: never been burned (mine has a long stem though) tastes like wood (but i like that) Glass: you will not get burned could break (depends on if its single or double blown) I guess its what youre into. either one is good. glass tends to be more expensive .

Forget all the technical terms, glass is better because its a better smoke. Metal is harsh and makes you cough a lot. While glass may make you cough it still hits easier

I have used a wooden pipe, ceramic, stone, glass, basically all of them. I have to admit, glass is my favorite out of all pipes to use. The taste is always great, even if the pipe is heavily resinated... I still find the taste to be totally like pot, to an extent. But nothing different than pot/resin mix. No added flavors that make you just wanna quit smoking the herb itself. I find that most glass pipes are more professionally made to make the user smile. Unlike a lot of other pipes out there that I've used. Not only that, but I find if you get a really good looking glass pipe, you sort of get attached to it. I know for me I carry my pipe everywhere with me. We've been through a lot! I've got him completely new, and resinated him down hardcore, many many times. So it's like having a baby almost. You get him at a young unused age, and the more you smoke out of him the more he grows. His appearance changes, everything.
