Yep, It's also called the carb, it's used to clear the chamber of smoke, so you can get more per hit. Good for bongs and larger pipes.

i thought a shotgun was when you take a big hit, cup your hands over your mouth, put the other side of your hands over someone else's mouth, then exhale as they inhale. that way it forces the smoke into their lungs like a blast from a shotgun, hence the name *shrug*

there are three "shotguns" that i know of

one is what people in CO call a carb. (the little hole on the side)

another is when you take a joint and someone else blows in threw the lit part while the other person sucks/inhales

the third is when you hold your breath in until the pipe (or whatever utensil you are using) gets back to you. (so you take a hit, hold it in, and exhale then take another hit..if that makes sense)

This third one isn't a very good idea. Especally if your in a large session. Your just depriving your brain of oxygen. All of the good stuff gets absorbed rather quickly.
