Default Color changing questions

This question has been bugging me for a little bit.

I've had a fair share of color changing pieces in the past. I'm also one of the people who never clean their spoons until it gets clogged. I was just wondering if the color changing is because of the resin build up or not. If I have a completely color changed piece and I scrape it, would the colors return to normal? Could I clean the pipe after every use and still get a color change?

I used to have a color changing spoon named franny...she was a nice piece...i never cleaned her out until i was out of grass and i wanted resin hits but whenever i cleaned it it wouldn't make much of a difference on the colors...when it broke i cleaned all the res out and smoked it out of a friends bowl (sort of a memorial service) when i took the time and scraped everything it changed a little closer to how it was when I bought it but not totally... so my answer is that i think the resin is a factor in the changing of the colors but i don't think it is the only factor so i would think you could get the colors to change if you clean it regularly just not as much...

I clean out my ccg all the time and it doesn't take off most the good coloring although it does leave it with a different overall look. Personally I like the way mine look when clean but that is just me. IME the resin tends to give the clearer parts a bronze tint but is not what causes the other color changes. I always use the rubbing alcoohol and salt method for cleaning though so I don't know if other methods take off all the color or not. And the bronze comes back really fast after cleaning but you don't have the gooey tar deposits anymore.

The residue has a lot to do with the color, light bounces off the res and some magic (not really sure how it works, but its some stuff they use when they make the pipe) happens to make it colorful. If you clean after every use it'll look similar to when you first bought it.

EDIT:

Now, as you smoke through a CCG (color changing glass) pipe resin/tar builds up. Resin/tar is a dark brown or black color. This puts a dark background to the metal ions which will begin 'showing through', and the color changes.

I always clean mine after each use, always have since I 1st bought it. The color changes slightly after smoking and then returns to normal after cleaning, why I have no idea. Its almost like there is a very opaque coloring and when that color is backed by the tar/smoke stuff it's more obvious. That's a total guess but I think it makes sense. I'm sure if I didn't clean it the color change would be much more extreme, but I really like my glass clean. I may hold off my cleanings for a couple of sessions just to see.
