Alright, i have a question for you. Say someone has a pipe that is totally resinated and has been smoked through for a year or so. If they were to clean it in the proven method of salt and isopro and get all of the visible gunk out of it would it be a legal pipe again. Obviously if there is still resin stuck in it then it would technically be illegal, but even if there was a little gunk that you really had to look for to see would there be much risk in having it? I really want to keep my bong when I go home for the summer, but I dont want to take it to my place because I just would rather my parents didnt know that I smoked. My girlfriend offered to take it because her parents are chill with smoking, but I really wouldnt want her to get busted with it ever. If a cop searched your car and found a pipe or bong that was pretty damn clean (like, where you REALLY have to look to find any resin residue or anything) and didnt smell of weed would they do anything about it? I'd appreciate any opinions or anything that could help, thanks.

Any residue is illegal but if you're really interested, you can try boiling it or soaking it in alcohol for a period of time, which should get rid of all of the resin.

if you can completely clean it then you will be straight. if there is even one spot where there is resin that they could test and it would test positive for drugs then its still illegal. make sure there is nowhere that looks dirty at all and you will probably be fine, but you have to clean it reallllllly good

but if they are legally sold as tobbaco pipes than it should be legal to have tobbaco residue? dont they have to test the residue to find it illegal? i have also wonderd this for awhile.

just start soaking it in alcohol now and after like a week, shake it, dump the gunk out, put some more in and some salt, and shake like a mf'er. and you can always soak longer.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! do NOT boil your pipe in alcohol EVER. alcohol is flamable and hot alcohol is NOT a good idea.

Thanks for the replys. And I have cleaned my pipes before with the salt/alcohol method and it works wonders. I am a lot more concerned with whether or not it removes ALL THC, which is what is illegal in the tar/residue buildup. So the consensus seems to be that if I clean it so there is ZERO residue remaining, that cops cant really do anything because it is just the same as having a new pipe/bong. Do you think that they would take it anyway if it still "looked used", like perhaps some permanent brown staining, and perhaps give the possesor a paraphenelia charge and test the pipe? Thanks for the help.

It depends on the laws in your state. I know some states will take you to jail just for having paraphenalia. Check www.norml.com for your states particular laws.

Who cares? Just clean it out, call it a tabacco pipe and hide it...
If you don't keep it in plain view your parents/popo won't find it (unless they search hard enough).
