man if anybody read my previous posts i expierimented and bought a bubbler and a glass pipe and i didint like either of them and i prefer metal now over them but today i was goona use the glass one just for the hell of it and ive used it maybe 5 times since ive got it and i was smoking a big ball of res and the fucking thing cracked right in the bottom it didint break still usuable but what the fuck how did that happen wasnt even lighting it for long how did this shit happen ? glass pipes fuckin suck man !

never heard of cracking it because you held a lighter to it for a few minutes. I have seen my friend crack his bowl taking resin hits for 30 minutes, but he should of realized that when it's to hot to handle with a shirt over your hands, you should give it a rest. you must of gotten some cheap glass or something, never had that problem.

Probably too thin glass. I've never had a pipe break just from heat. All of them have broken because they got dropped or they fell or something...

Glass shouldn't crack just from lighting it. Were you using the bubbler or the pipe? Was it cold outside? Were you even smoking outside?

P.S. Would using some sentences hurt?

Its possible that there was a hairline crack in it when you bought it. Or it could have been really thin glass.

Where did you get the pipe? YOu wont have good luck with glass if you dont get a good quality one. Go to a proper head shop (no, not your corner gas station) and look for the thickest glass you can. Then ask to hold them in your hand. Make sure the carb has a nice placement, make sure its not too short (burning eye lashes suck) and make sure it looks cool. Actualy take the pipe, hold it up to your face (dont put your mouth on it or the employee will smack you ahahha!) and make sure that its easy to hold and use. Seriously, go through the motions of smoking except dont let it touch your mouth. ANd be sure to look over it REALLY well. Look in the bowl. Make sure there arent any big bubbles in the glass. A few really really tiny ones shouldnt worry you.

Metal is inferior to glass in every single aspect EXCEPT durability and how easy it is to clean (which is actualy debatable). But thats not to say a glass pipe will break randomly (your story is deffinatly the minority). Im talking about if you drop your pipe. Thats the ONLY perk of metal. If you drop it, it'll hold up better than glass. But im not saying glass is weak. Ive dropped all sorts of glass pipes and they've held up just fine. But they were good quality pipes. Thick as hell.

So where di you get the pipe?

Yeah some glass pipes suck if something is cold or hot and heat or frost is added they will crack indeed and im guessing it was cold out so if u were smoking outside maybe that explains it make sure next time u buy a glass bowl it is made of pyrex btw any glass bowl is better than a metal bowl. metal leaves that shitty taste and its such a harsh hit meanwhile glass just seems so.......... natural

I'm guessing the others were right.....you must have bought a cheaply made bowl. I've yet to see a pipe crack from the heat of a lighter. maybe you're cheaply made products are why you don't like glass. To be honest, I've hardly ever heard anyone saying they perferred metal over glass after actually comparing the two. I pretty much converted my friends to glass....they are all older than me, and had been using metal most of their smoking careers. I started bringing my glass pieces around, and lo and behold....they all started getting their own!

Well i doubt pyrex would break but maybe these people arent professinals and they are selling rip off bowls made of glass that cups are made of just put a cup in the freezer until its ok pretty cold then turn the sink on hot bring the cup to the sink and run the cold glass under hot water and it will crack right in ur hand as u watch

A pipe wont break because its cold outside. There has to be a bigger temperature difference than that to cause a break like he's describing.


To the original poster: GO BUY A QUALITY GLASS PIPE. It will make all the difference.
