| I had an idea when I was looking at my long-lost sherlock... i was wondering if I could use the torch and set up i have right now that I use to make glass beads for making pipes? The problem is that as far as I know, all glass pieces are pyrex, and the glass i use is moretti, it's softer. any of you guys know if this is alright to use?

Pyrex is special glass that can take high amounts of heat, and retain it's chemical structure. Glass oven bowls, microwavable glass, all of it is pyrex.

| If you can form it right I don't think it would break if you are careful. It would be a little more delicate, but I would think it would be fine as long as the heating and cooling from the flame didn't weaken it. |

| One thing is that when you make beads, you're reshaping already made glass, but glass blowing actually uses the sand and is made fresh. Thaaa |

Glass blowers buy pre made tubes of glass. THey dont melt a bunch of sand and make glass themnselves hahahah!! Pyrex is made of silicate sand, soda, lime, and boron. The proccess of making pyrex glass isnt one that any old corner glass blowing joint can pull off. Who told you glass blowers use thier own sand and make it "fresh" As for the original poster: It COULD work if you wanted to somehow make a chamber out of your glass, but the bowl would MOST DEFFINATLY need to made of proper pyrex. So if you get creative with your design, it is deffinatly possible. As im sure you know, you can head down to your local headhsop and pick up a variety of pyrex glass bowls for pretty cheap that would be perfect for a project like that. Just know that the glass you are using isnt quite as strong, and it wont hold up well to repeaded heating and cooling thats involved in smoking. | |

| Well Im glad I read up on my glass yesterday. For real, I just started to read up on blowing glass cause I want to get started doing it. Anyway, Chunk is exactly right to thaa... OP: From all the stores and shit that I have been looking at, only the $250+ torches can mold Pyrex. Now that has me a little confused still... Pyrex is a brand of glass if you didnt know. It is used as a generalized term for borosilicate glass, yet its not even made from that anymore. Its now made from a soda-lime glass. So my question to add to your already answerless thread: Do these torches not mold Pyrex brand, brosilicate glass, or soda lime glass?
