So I just went through the mission and damn, it was near impossible.

So I just got my first pipe right?

Well it's used.

So I wanted to clean it and make it look brand new. But lemme tell ya, this thing was so backed up, I couldn't even take a hit the first time I tried, lol. So I bought some 1$ rubbing alcohol from my work before I walked home. Upon getting home I knew I would be alone for several hours. So I took a plastic glass, filled it with the RA and let it sit for about 1.5 hours.

By then the RA had turned dark brown and I could only see the tip of the mouthpiece of my bowl poking out the top. I took it out in the sink and holy shit, so much brown and black shit fell out it wasn't even funny.

I immediately started going at it with the QT's (otherwise known as, Q-Tips) and took out several, several, several QTs with covered black tips. I placed the QT's in a disposable container I could later throw away.

It started looking really nice and clear in a lot of places and I was excited to see the potential clean it could reach. But holy shit.. so many caked on spots.

I ended up having to soak, go at it, soak more, go at it.. etc.. lather, rinse, repeat. After about an hour I was finally working on the last black spot that was on the opposite end of the bowl opposing the choke. And finally I got it and rinsed well under warm water and dried it off with a towel and by taking dry hits. :P

I packed and smoked the first bowl and it was awesome. I could see how much smoke I was taking and whether or not it was completely cleared.

I think the resinated looks cooler, but I think now I prefer bowls to be as clean as possible.

I mean I'm not gonna go crazy and clean it after every smoke. But probably less than an O. I mean, I've never really payed attention to how long it takes to get as bad as mine was. It was really damn bad. Went through half a box of QT's.

But now I'm rambling, here's some pics for comparison.

P.S. I thought the glass was burned or something, cause inside the bowl was black.. like caked on.. Looked like it has fused with the glass or something, but no, it was perfectly clear glass afterward.

I know how it is to want to use your new piece right away but I do have a couple tips for ya. Next time you have a situation like that let it sit overnight in the Alcohol. It makes the cleaning much easier. I've also heard that putting some salt in with the alcohol helps as well. And, get some pipe cleaners. They work bettter than Q-Tips.

Nice piece BTW. I'm glad you were able to get it back in working order.

Yeah I could have probably done it much easier if I let it soak, but I wanted it clean today. W/e the deed is done, it's perfect.

However crude my methods were (bending Q-Tips around in the bowl lol) it worked in the end.

And this was the worst case of buildup I've seen.

Also, since it was so caked... And depending if you ever are on a dry spell and want to smoke resin, you could use a metal q-tip thingy, or safety pin. I never know what to call those things.... But you could clean it, it'll take a long time but you'll get a lot of resin by just poking that metal tip around and sliding it across all of that caked tar... And then you turn the mouth piece pointing towards the ground and use the palm of your hand to hit the bowl. ALOT of pieces of resin, and unsmoked resinated buds will fall on to the ground. And that is why I prefer to put a small gladware container under the resination so you can gather it up. It works for me all the time. After smoking throughout two oucnes I can get MANY bowls.

Yes I'm sure there were many grams of shit in there. None of which I would smoke.

Another reason I had to do it yesterday was because Tuesdays are the only day I'm alone long enough to do it.

For easier cleaning, put some salt in the rubbing alcohol and let it soak for a while, then shake it up a bit, then let it soak, repeat etc. Eventually you can get most if not all of the resin out of it and there's not much work involved. Make sure to rinse it out good and let it dry before smoking up with it though lol.

Yeah. Use coarse salt. It acts as a mild abrasive, basically. You're basically sanding off the chunks of caked-on resin.

I don't do a thorough cleaning of my bowl all that often. Invariably, there's a cup with some nasty brown liquid that Mrs. Perv washes, wondering what the fuck I've been drinking!

The best is to take the hook part of a clothes hanger and work it around , Ive gotten ALOT out of my bowl.
....too bad its broke now and im using homemade shyt
