I have been smoking out of a little glass pipe for a long time, so the other day I decided to get a bigger one. I got a sweet colored one, where there is like a little hole in the stem, as well as the standard carb hole on the side of the bowl. The Stem hole looks like it is not a place where air should rush in, and I thought it was just there for show when I bought it, but when I smoked out of it, I figured out that there was air rushing into that hole and into the stem. However, it is in an easy place to cover (it's where you'd normally put your finger and thumb over the stem). Has anyone else encountered a pipe with two carb holes like this one, or is it just broken, in which case I need to get a new one?? Thanks! Peace

If you show us a picture we can probably say if it's intentional or not... But once you've smoked out of it, it doesn't matter - almost no place will take it back.

If it's not a problem, I wouldn't worry about it - you've got something unique.

K, so here's a pic...it's not great because my webcam sucks, but you can see the little hole in the stem (near the bowl, where that little arrow is pointing)...and though it is not a hole that goes like right into the stem...it is lined with glass and goes right through (which is why I thought it was just for a unique stem and not another carb). However, inside the hole there is a thin slit that goes all the way around that lets in small but somewhat significant amounts of air. Cooler hits, and slower burning (unless it is plugged with my finger)...and the smoke is incredibly smooth and I don't seem to be losing smoke out of there either, which makes it kinda cool...but still it is an extra hole to plug...so I'm not sure if it is supposed to be there or not...but the slit inside there seems almost a constant width and perfectly circular, which leads me to believe that maybe it's intentional.

Well it ain't broken if it came like that, I personally wouldn't want 2 carbs in a pipe. It just seems like more work.

Yeah, I'm not too crazy about two carbs either, but it does the trick...the first time I used it, I didn't even notice that there was air rushing in the middle hole, and it got me pretty damn baked, so I'm thinkin that the slit is so small that essentially all it does it cool down your hits...I didn't see any smoke escaping or anything, but it got me extremely baked because I could take bigger hits due to the coolness of the smoke...plus it burns slower, so I got more hits. It's pretty cool actually.

You can get similar affects by either gently pushing your lips against your pipe to allow air to flow in with the smoke, or you can do it by gently pushing your finger in the carb to do the same. I'm not trying to dog on your pipe or anything man, I'm sure its good...sounds like she is working just fine. Looks pretty sweet too.

It's just a split stem, where the smoke goes around the 'hole' into two tubes, where it meets up again in one tube. A more fragile pipe with no real advantage to it.

That's not what he means, the hole in the middle splits the main steam of the bowl into two tubes then meets up again. Looks cool, but doesn't serve much perpose... but hey neither does colour changing! Anyway, maybe that slit is exactly what you think it is... a "cooler" for your smoke. if you can still get nice rips out of it with it uncovered, maybe it's there for that reason... could be the next big innovation on bowls. After all, I'm sure when people first started getting carbs they didn't quite know what they were for.
Either way, pretty sweet looking piece you got there dude, enjoy.

Well it's really hard to tell from the pic but it looks like another bowl to me. A friend of mine had a chillum with the regular bowl at one end and then a seperate bowl on top too. I'm not sure what the point of having two bowls on one piece was but none of us were complaining.
