I have a friend who might sell me his and its 3 1/2" long and I already have a pocket one thats 2 1/4" long so will there be much of a difference between the two?

Not really...
The shorter one might produce harsher hits, simply from the shorter distance from bowl to mouth....
I wouldn't think there would be a huge difference, though.

Well, I think it's all about personal preference. I like a longer spoon because I find it more comfortable to hold and my hairs long and on a short spoon when I'm not paying attention I occassionally scorch my hair, but that's just me. In terms of smoking performance, I don't know if the extra length will make that much of a difference. And, although it's not much of a difference again, shorter pipes are easier to conceal. If you want the pipe and can afford it, and he wants to sell, I'd say go for it. If it's an interesting looking piece, I'd probably buy it anyway because I just like glass.

When I read the topic at first I thought "Silverware, what does that have to do with it." then "spooning - cuddling?". Such a stoner.

It's all personal preference man. I would say more asthetic appeal than anything.

shorter, smaller pipes are nice and portable, but they never let you take really big hits because it gets hotter faster, and is a harsher smoke


medium sized, 3.5-4" pipes are just about perfect, they're portable, not hard to light, and almost all of these pipes will let you take nice big hits without having a harsh smoke


larger, 5-7" pipes are larger peices which have a larger smoke capacity, and will ususally let you take a nice big rip out of it and have a nice cool, smooth smoke


massive 8-12" steamrollers (usually not standard spoons) are basically like ripping out of a dry bong - absolutely massive smoke capacity, HUGE rips, you'll usually will cough up a lung if you fully milk it and clear it, but you'll be high as hell off just a couple big hits


its all a matter of personal preference - just find the pipe that you like the most - how it holds, how the mouthpeice is shaped, how large the carb is, how large the inner diameter of the pipe is, and how big the bowl is, etc



I prefer to have some medium sized dry peices to carry with me when I go places, and then a nice big 6" dry peice with a huge bowl for use at home and when smoking with large groups of people
