Bought for $40 at a headshop. I feel like I got ripped, but I wasn't really expecting to pay less than 30 for a pipe anyway. Tell me what you think??

How much Weed is this? I got it from my godsister, and she actually uses the stuff for medical purposes so I think it might be Indica strain.

A few questions -- First, what do you think? Is the pipe any good? Worth even remotely what I paid for it?
Is the carb a good size? How about the little hole thingie? I got one of them little glass filters.
3 - How much weed do I have with that bit surrounding the quarter?
Is that enough for 4 people to get moderately stoned?
4 - Anyone have any clue as to what type this could be? Or if there's anything they could tell me based on what they see, about this herb?

nice pipe, I dunno about 40 but it is really cool, I probably wouldnt have paid more then 30 though, the weed looks really good too, not sure how much it is, maybe .5-.7g? it should pack into about 2 bowls, so depending on how high all your tolerences are it should get you pretty stoned, congratulations and happy tokin', always a special moment when you first christen(sp?) a pipe

looked back at your post, the carbs fine, they really dont have to be to big, also I have never used a pipe screen on a glass piece, usually dont need it, never had anything blow through unless the bowls cashed

titty is right about needing a screen or the most part once the bowl gets all resinated the weed will stick to the edges for the most part. if your one of the guys who likes to grind the stuff before you back you might need a screen at first.

Nice pipe. $40 doesn't sound over priced, as long as the quality is good. I have a glass pipe that was around $40 (CANADIAN too ). Congrats on the new pipe.

That pipe would be worth something between 25 and 30, but I can see how that ornamental thing in the middle jacked the price up a bit. Seems like a pretty fair price for that quality. It's definitely on the higher end. Look in the "Post your pipe" thread for more, because a lot of us wrote how much we paid for our pipes when we post the pics...

That could be anywhere from one gram to two and half. It depends on how dense the nugs are. The densest nug I've had was this small little thing about the size of my thumb nail, but it weighed out to one gram...

EDIT: I'm looking at your bowl size. That's a .3 or .4 bowl pack. Use that as a reference when finding out how much weed you actually have...

It's definitely very good quality stuff. Amazing find for your first time. I mean damn, even your stems have some crystals sticking out!

And we can't tell you what kind it is. We just cannot do that. An experienced smoker could tell you if it is an indica or sativa after smoking it, but if this is your first time, you will not have anything to base it off with. Don't worry about it though, really. You're gonna get stoned, in the future, you'll have references...

Wow! All of my questions were answered... thanks so much you guys!
I don't feel so bad about the purchase... I went to a couple stores and I saw this one on my way out. It was the only one that looked neat 'nough to buy. Actual price sticker read 35.99, but the old asian couple that sold it to me started bickering about how it was supposed to be 40. Maybe they saw that when I pulled out my $40 and decided they needed some weed.. haha
Whatever, everything seems to have worked out. I don't mind, as long as I didn't pay like twice what it's worth... hah!

So where could I go to learn procedures/techniques on how to use the pipe? I mean I've smoked before but I just lit and inhaled, maybe resulting in too harsh of hits.. but I didn't notice because I grew up with my mother being a chain smoker, so I suppose you could say I have somewhat of a natural resistance to the coughing that most people get their first time.

Yeah. Where could I go to learn about my pipe, smoking order, and lighting techniques and the likes? Thanks again you guys are really helpful =D

Just get comfortable and stay here...the waters warm. Having an experienced person showing you the specifics would be ideal though.

First of all, you want to break up that cannabis as fine as you can. You can use your fingers, a grinder, some people use scissors, some people throw it into the coffee grinder...

Pack that in there. You want to pack it, but you don't want to infringe on the airflow. Just pressing a little firmly with your fingers should pack it enough. If it's not packed enough, the weed will burn up too fast. If it's too tight, you'll have to suck your pipe to the point of ejaculation to get a hit...

With the hitting it, just like packing it, it's about finding your balance. You want your finger covering your carb hole on the pipe before you light it. Don't torch the weed, this is very important. Bring the flame close to the weed, and use your sucking to bring the flame down. You shouldn't need the flame for the entire hit, though sometimes you do. When you've hit a pipe a couple times, you'll be able to tell when the weed needs the lighter.

Near the end of your hit, release the carb and suck a little harder to clear the smoke from the chamber.

That's basically it. Everyone has their own personal method, but this is the "standard" kind of. When you get more experience you can use the carb hole multiple times in a hit, "tapping" it to get a nice combination of air and ganja...As you keep on smoking, your natural way of doing will unfold.

For now just follow the standard, "official" way to do it....and try not to think about it. A few weeks down the road you'll notice how different you're doing it! It's your own special way!

One last question for this thread -- Is there a way to determine via appearance whether the bud you bought is Sativa or Indica? Are there any distinguishing characteristics?
Or is it aaaaalll up to the guy you bought it from to let you know? =P

Not from the type of nugs you have. I'd guess that if you had full nugs off of a plant, like 5-10 inch long nugs, it would be easier because indica plants are shorter and stouter. Sativa's are longer and branching.

I think that indicas generally have denser nugs, but I am not sure.

I'm telling you, the only sure fire way to tell is by smoking it and noticing a distinct couch-lock type of high, or a more cerebral, uppy high. You, in all probability, do not have a pure indica or sativa. Most weed that you buy is a hybrid, usually favouring a side 40-60 or sometimes 70-30. When you have a good mix, you'll notice the best from both sides of the plant, and you may have different types of highs depending on the type of set and setting.
