Default Color Change

I know that resign makes your bowl appear to change color, but I was wondering if there is anyway to see what it will look like after all the resign build up.

Might be a stupid question but I was just wondering.

My local headshop keeps black rabbit furs to put the pieces on and it will usually show the color change. I'd imagine anything black or dark would show you.

If you mean... seeing how the bowl colors changed without the resin color effect? Soak the bowl in 100% rubbing alcohol for a day or two, flush it very thoroughly with water with sand or something it in for abrasion. Repeat alcohol soaking as many times as necessary. Should get it crystal clear. There are commercially available abrasion liquids for bong cleaning at head shops usually. They work magic.

^ thats not what he means man, and it doesnt work like that. im pretty sure hes saying he got a new pipe and wants to see what the colors will look like after the resin build up, without actually taking the time to wait for the resin to build up.

also, what you said doesnt work like that. the resin is the only thing making the pipe "change color", it simply darkens the colors. so if you were to clean your pipe like you mentioned and get all the resin out, the pipe would look the way it does when it is brand new. the colors dont "change" without any resin in the pipe.

in refference to the original post, perhaps sticking a black or brown pipe cleaner down the pipe would show you what it would look like if it were resinated, but that would only work for the stem of the pipe, not the bowl head... maybe puting the pipe on a dark background like DarkFlan said would help a little bit

No no, it does work like that. There is a type of glass, when heated will literally change colors. If you haven't heard of or seen this type of glass, I suggest you do some research. "CCG", as it is referred to, does not rely on resin to change its colors. It could be completely clear and change to virtually any array of designs and colors.

I don't understand why you need to know what a pipe looks like with resin in it...? Just find the one that you like and clean it when it gets too resinous. No one wants resin in their pipe.

That's because you smoked a couple bowls out of it. The little bit of tar was enough to make that particular pipe show different colours, I've had a couple really small glass pieces that were like that. The reason it works is because the resin behind the glass blocks/reflects light (something along those lines) and that changes the tint/shade of the glass. it makes a colour already there stand out and be more visible when the light is changed. The more resin that collects the more the colour "changes". Try taking a REALLY resinated bowl, and clean it out perfectly. It'll look brand new: clean, AND the original colours.

Exactly....pipes don't just change color...its the resin from smoking that makes the glass APPEAR to change colors. However, when clean, the pipe will look like it did when new.

no, read what gabe said. color changing glass (CCG) changes because the resin darkens the pipe.
