Okay so... im planning on making a bong of sorts and i need something for a downpipe and im wondering if rubber is okay, as long as it doesnt melt obviously.

Because i found this old like...internet cable and i stripped the rubber insulation off the outside and it fits perfectly into the end of a socket but im not sure if the smoke traveling through the rubber will do anything bad.

Note: I've done this before and it didnt melt the rubber but it makes the smoke taste a little funky which is why im wondering if it's bad.

i have a pipe that broke off to the bowl so i put some rubber utility hose over the end of it. doesn't hurt, but tastes like shit. might be better with a bong, though. never know until you try it though.

might be a good idea to wrap the bottom outside part of the socket with some sort of good heat insulating tape, else your rubber would burn if the bowl gets too hot.

Why smoke with a material that makes the weed taste bad???

Humans have this neat mechanism in their brains, that tells you weather or not something is good, or bad, by the way it tastes, and smells...use common sense on this one...if smoking out of rubber not only produces a bad taste, but also a bad smell...don't do it.
