Default Home Depot.

Well. I went to home depot today and saw some nice brass pipe pieces that could be made into a pipe. I know this has been asked before, and I could just go look it up on google, but is it safe to smoke out of brass pieces? And when I was there, I couldnt seem to find any faucet screens, but if i did, it that safe either. One time i took a lighter to my window screen and it burned off this horrible smelling smoke, so...

I wouldn't bother. Get a glass pipe.

A post from sterbo I dug up;

Below is just a brief example of toxicity specific to a few of the many metal alloys in the market place.
Why take any chance at all when there are so many inexpensive pipes constructed from, for the most part, safe materials like brier and glass?

Brass is a metal alloy of Copper and Zinc, with copper content ranging from 58% to 95%.
The 'gassing' reaction of copper with oxygen requires precautions when temperatures exceed 700 C.
All metals create odors when heated and although the metals themselves can withstand temperatures of thousands of degrees they still release harmful toxins when heated.

Copper Compounds - - copper has been found to be highly toxic to animals in test situations, but there has been little testing in industrial circumstances involving people. Fumes of copper oxide are poisonous, irritating the lungs and intestines. It causes metal fume fever; recovery is usually complete in 1 or 2 days. Eyes and skin are sensitive to copper. There is no conclusive evidence about long-term exposure. Good ventilation is recommended for processes that involve heat, leading to the formation of Copper oxides. If the metalsmith find some type of dermatitis developing, he/she may want to wear gloves when handling copper-containing alloys.

Etc...

Brass is ok, better than aluminum. Get a brass areator screen for a bathroom faucet and a 3/4" male threaded brass adapter piece that has a barbed fitting on the other end.

Like Spiral said,
Why bother when it's so easy to get a piece that is inert.

Also a bic lighter is nowhere near capable of heating brass to it's melting point.

like rwb said, you're not going to exceed 700c. that's a ridiculous temperature that you would only reach if you were using say an iron forge to light up. just pointing that out. if you do use brass the final product is very cheap and a lot easier for a minor to obtain that a glass piece since buying metal parts at home depot is not illegal even with the intent of smoking

Has anyone ever seen a report of a person getting sick from smoking out of a brass pipe? I haven't. Until I can get some verifiable data concerning actual toxic reactions, I'll continue to consider this discussion to be totally theoretical. It's "logic" is at the same level as the prohibitionists' claims that marijuana causes lung cancer because it has carcinogens in the smoke. It would seem possible, but large-scale studies have proved that it simply isn't true.

People have been smoking various things out of brass pipes for hundreds of years. You would think that someone would have noticed by now if it caused health problems.
