| I was recently making a homemade piece, glass with a socket from a wrench kit (all safe materials) and I was using a piece from an old set of headphones as a screen, but I noticed something. Whenever I light a flame and breath in, the screen glows red, and stops as soon as the flame is gone. Is that normal? It's very thin metal, like a circular screen, but do normal screens do this? I'm not going to be using it until I know it's safe. Any feedback would help very much, thanks! ![]() |

| Yes it's normal. A very light gauge metal screen subjected to that kind of heat will commonly flare. If I were you I wouldn't use it. I would buy one that is a heavier gauge, preferably stainless, definitely not brass or copper. Better yet, don't use metal at all. Use a glass gauze (screen) that more typically are used in bongs. And, unless it is really necessary don't use a screen at all...

| It is common. Thin metal will burn from the heat of a lighter. Get a thicker one, or use a pebble/glass screen... | |

| Yeah, that's pretty normal...don't worry about it. Just like how your bud glows when you light it, so will your screen |
