| If you are using the Copper pipe as the stem for your bong, your safe as long as you are not using a torch or something hot enough to heat the bowl and the stem to oxidizing temperatures. For the actual bowl, I prefer to use brass, steel (any type), wood, or glass if possible. Also, i like to sand the inside of the bowl first with a medium/high grit sand paper and then a high-grit polishing sandpaper to remove any oxidization or protective coatings that may be on the surface of the metal. Silver solder works well to connect the stem and bowl. ![]()

| I just did a lab in chemistry where we heated copper(ii) bromide, and yes it does turn into a smelly toxic gas that needs Sodium Hydroxide to balance it out... so if you wanted to smoke out of copper you could inhale fumes of sodium hydroxide first and coat your lungs with it... but I highly discourage that because NaOH is toxic too. |

| The pipe I use when nobody has a nice one is made out of some pieces of plumbing pipe. I was just wondering if someone could identify it as copper or bronze. I bought it at a hardware store, and it was in a section with all these little pieces in bags, and there were a very wide range of lengths and diameters, and I just found a 2 inch long quarter inch diameter pipe, an L bend thing, and another small deal that allows you to hook up hose to it. I relate it to the nozzle on the gas hoses in science labs. it all cost me about $7. I am wondering if this is copper, and If I should quit using it. | |

| Don't risk your health, Scorp243, if it's plumbing it's more than likely copper.
