I recently built a lightbulb vaporizer in about a half hour on the advise of a friend. It worked perfect- in typical vaporizer fashion there was no smell and the smoke was much cleaner. If you're interested, here's how to make one-

Take a burnt-out, regular sized lightbuild, and smash the cermic/metal end of it (shown in the red circle) with a spoon. [edit- Try a bulb that isn't burnt out if you want, but I hear they might implode or crack once you break the seal.]


Clean out all the wires, pieces, and bits of ceramic from the bulb. Next you MUST clean out the white frosting that coats the inside of the bulb. Shake some hot saltwater around inside the bulb. Try some water mixed with dishwasher detergent too. Rinse the bulb clean and let it dry (you don't want to be inhaling steam). It should be completely clear like this.



Next, get a bottle cap (almost any bottle cap will screw perfectly onto the bottom of the bulb). Punch two holes in it- widen one of the holes so you can fit a straw through.



The finished product should look like this:



To Use:Break up your herb and put it the bulb. Screw the cap on and hold the bulb underneath a flame (either a gas lighter or candle will work) until you see a green "vapor" swirling up. Drag slowly on the straw. Do not put the bulb right into the flame. The idea behind a vaporizer is that the weed is not being burnt or smoked, it is being heated until the THC vaporizes. Very smooth, give it a shot.

does it work (do you get a decent high from it)? If so, it looks like a great idea. Will the glass crack if you heat it too much? I know lightbulbs get hot when they're turned on, but probably not as hot as a flame could get it.
I wanna try it, but I have no burnt-out bulbs. Is there a way to do it with a normal bulb or is there a way to purposely burn out a bulb?

Some people say that vaporizing does not give as good a high, but I don't think this is the case. Myself and many others swear by this thing. When you're done the weed is brown and it looks like all the THC has been vaped. I think the bulb could crack if it was heated or cooled too fast. If you're up to it, try it with a working bulb and let me know what happens. It's not going to explode or anything, but I heard it might crack once you break the seal- not sure if this is true or not.

using a new bulb is probably better
i mean think about it it wont have been subjected to as much use, so the chances of cracking are much less, mine ive used heavily in the past...oh 2 hours (slightly different than yours) and no cracks.

that's real cool... thanks for sharing... but what's a butane lighter? is that any regular lighter u can buy or is it some specialty product?
