| Alright so I've just got this crap joint roller to get me out a halfway decent J, and being from wisconsin I never really was exposed to the idea of a crutch (cardboard piece usually on the mouth end of the joint to keep it hitting and free from saliva and residue block-er-age) So as of late ive been trying out different styles of crutches for different papers and I must say, im half impressed, half not. The cool part are the obvious and stated reasons but the bad part is, if you have a bad memory like me, its good to finish the joint while the thought of that little piece of cardboard is still on your mind, because I put my J out halfway, came back awhile later, light it up and BAAM got down and wondered why my J went from fab, to BLAH! Mhmmm Also I wonder, on a molecular level could the cardboard be not quite filtering, but absorbing some of the THC , or maybe even some of the unhealthy organic matter, if even in the slightest bit? Heres one for if / when you get bored buzz ^^^ALright, thats all for now, im going to spark this and think of some more topics to spam these forums with ![]() Ciao all of my friends, and BIG THANKS TO ALL THE MODERATORS AND ADMINS KEEPING THINGS IN ORDER, WE LOVE YA ! As a J burns, the vaporized THC moves from the hot end towards the cold end. Because it runs through material cooler than the vaporization temperature of THC, some of it recondenses along the way. That's why Js get stronger the further down you smoke them. The tars formed by combustion do the same thing. The difference is that tars have a higher vaporization temperature than THC. For that reason, I don't smoke the last quarter inch of a J. It has lots of tar and almost no THC. If I used a crutch I wouldn't smoke the last quarter inch before the crutch for the same reason. | That's extremely interesting, and now you've sparked a learning urge. See you're right, if you put a crutch in then yes you are going to spit on it, but it holds it shape and keeps us amateur(if you can even call us that) rollers on the right track; seeing how point ends are a common occurance. It doesnt really keep it from blocking, but it does keep you as the smoker from A.Burning your lips, and B.if the joint is pointy, then the saliva will indeed block it, depending on if your friends have a bad habit of lipping it and whatnot. Education is simply amazing, thanks for your time Buzz. |

| i dont use a crutch. and i dont smoke the last 1'4 inch either. i dont smoke the last part for a different reason. hes right about there being a higher tar to thc ratio at the end, but for certain reasons (ie i smoke ciggs and am too young and dumb to care much about my health yet) that doesnt matter to me. what does matter to me is that there is more thc there and its way hard to smoke that last bit of roach. so what i do is save that last about 1/4 inch from enough roaches to roll a j out of just those roaches. you will be rendered from one of those guaranteed.

| I often put a "crutch" if you will into my joints, because it helps keep the shape. As well, it does trap at least some of the tar from going into my lungs; because of Buzzby's condensation effect, it does a wee bit to help bring down the ill health effects. Of course, I'm not so naive that I'm not still worried about the tar and smoke in my lungs, but it's something I do, you know, like knocking on wood.
