A butane lighter doesn't get aluminum foil hot enough to cause it to burn and produce aluminum oxide. Unless you're sitting there trying to burn the foil, you're not going to. (unless you use REALLY thin foil? mine tends to be a bit thickish)

| Um, well if you've ever freebased (which has nothing to do with marijuana, unless of course you're smoking hash) you would know that you have to keep the lighter on the foil for a long time so it can actually heat up, sometimes you even have to use two lighters to get it hot enough. Either way, just avoid it. It's not that hard to go get some joint papers or buy a $15 pipe.

Sorry ain't read whole tread, but just wanted to post that Aluminum foil can be quite toxic depending on which brand you buy. some of them have a heat restant coating along with other chemicals (to prevent the Alu falling apart in the oven after heating), which will iritate the lungs, and of course give the liver and kidneys something else to deal with. Though i have not touched herion myself i have had to grow up in the circles, and you can tell who uses foil from the dry cough they develop. not to be confused with a smokers cought which seem to be more deep and throughty.

Aluminum melts at 660 C (1220 F). Normal Bic Lighters reach about... 450-500 C (842-932 F) Not sure what this means, just some facts. ![]()

The reference to aluminum and alzeimers considers aluminum IONS, not aluminum metal or aluminum oxide (both of which are NOT ionic compounds). aluminum metal isnt the worry, although any metal dust is bad for your respiratory tract. also, to make the aluminum hot enough to go into your lungs, you would have to heat it up until it melted (look at the phase diagram for a metal, you will notice that there is no solid/gas line). by this i mean you cant get aluminum hot enough with a lighter to vaporize it. and yea, soda cans are COVERED in polymers and plastics to keep the metal from oxidizing and to keep the actual soda from reacting with the metal. although i doubt it, inhalation through some aluminum apparatus (pipe/can pipe) may create toxic gasses through adsorptive catalysis. then again, it may catalyse the synthesis of safe gases from toxic ones (metal surfaces are often used as catalysts in gaseous reactions: catalytic converter in a car, and no it doesnt HAVE to be platinum, it just has to be at the right temperature) still though, stay away from SMOKING either way, you should always vaporize.
