Default concerns about smoking from homemade bong

my old bongs use to be made out of a 2liter soda bottle with a tinfoil bowl. after hearing about how it's so bad for u, i decided to get a metal screen. i got one from the little faucet piece and also from a cooking thing where u strain out the water. i smoked from it today and when i put a lighter up to it it leaves a brown spot. i don't think i could melt it but do u think it's safer for me? and will it relase some kind of oxide, bc i heard copper is the worst to smoke from? hlep me out here

Don't worry about the brown spot. Steel will discolor when it gets heated intensely. If you're worried about it, just go buy a small metal screen from Home Depot, but I guarantee that it will leave a small brown spot on that too. The filter is probably steel, so it's probably just fine. But yeah, copper and tinfoil are bad to smoke out of. Keep it over the aluminum foil, definately. And if you SMOKED from it, it stand to reason that a large part of that brown spot is resin.

If you have access to a head shop, you can buy a really nice (And cheap) metal bowl and all the screens you'll ever need. Also, you'll know that what yer smoking is safe.

I think thats the best bet.
