Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and I just wanted to rant about my homemade one-hitter. I made it from a pen cap (metal) and the end of a pen...that cone shaped piece. I can fit a tiny bit of a bud in, but that is fine...I still get baked from it. I'll post the pic of it later..lol, it's pretty impressive.

Making your own pipes is cool , but you might want to consider a glass pipe if you don't already have one. Smoking out of some kinds of metal can be bad for you because the metal is coated with chemicals that can burn off and be inhaled while smoking.

What kind of metals are bad to be "smoked"? Now you have me worrying...

As soon as I get the pic posted, would there be any way of telling me if it'd be dangerous to smoke from it? Thanks in advance.

To be honest if it's metal from a pen of any kind you probabally shouldn't be smoking with it. Here's why, most likely the metal that you can see is most likely not the base metal the pen is made with, rather a coating of some shiny metal that was put on top of some other cheaper metal. During the process of heating this "meatal" you can release harmful toxins into the smoke you're breathing.

Buy a glass pipe you can get one for under $10 at most head shops. If your not 18 find someone to buy it for you it shouldn't be that hard.

I know that alluminum pipes and foilies are bad for you.

What happens is when you touch the flame to the metal (or the cherry, there is no way around it) it vaporizes the alluminum and releases a harmful chemical that is proven to cause alzheimer's disease.

I may make another one from a different material...does anyone know any tips on how to make a pipe? Or a link of some sort? Thanks in advance.

There are certain metals which are specifically utilized for their flame retardant properties. Steel and brass are very easy to find at any hardware store if you have to make one, and they're also the best metals to use. Both metals may get hot after smoking with them, will taste pretty bad, and really might not be that great compared to glass, but if you can't get a hold of any glass or rolling papers, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Steel sockets make great bowls, and you can find brass and steel piping at any hardware store or even around the house. Just make sure you don't take a socket that someone else might want to use later. Keep in mind that you should always thoroughly clean any industrial product. There's usually a ton of debris from the shaping of the metal inside that would certainly not be good to inhale. Wash it out with soap and water, and make sure to scrub out all the grooves, possibly with a thin bottle brush or pipe cleaner.

I have smoked from the pipe that I made and all I can taste is the weed. I taste nothing from the ordinary. Is this a good sign?

My favorite homemade pipe is one i made completely from bamboo (it adds a nice flavor) it even has a bamboo bowl. and its not harmful i dont think.

I just wanted one that I can fit in my pocket comfortably...so it can be carried anywhere and is small, and portable. Any ideas?
