Thats true. You want to make a hole near the top, and cover it in the begining of your hit, and let it go at the end.

Also the bottle doesnt need to be 2 litter. A 20 Oz, or other size will work just as well.

This is the way I've always used the 2 liter. ..
Materials needed: 2 liter plastic bottle
Scissors
A bucket or a big jug. (needs to be bigger that the 2 liter)
A pipe
Pot



First cut off the bottom of the bottle, about3/4ths of the way down, and fill up the bucket with water. Then cut a small hole at the top of the bottle. Stick the mouth peice of the pipe in the hole. Put the 2 liter in the water untll the pipe is just over the water. Light the weed and slowly pull up the bottle (you should see smoke entering the bottle). Pull out the pipe and quickly cover the hole with your thumb. Take the top off and put your mouth over there. Then inhale as you push the bottle back down in the water and let go off the carb.

As an alternative to constructing an apple pipe, you might try making a cucumber steamroller.

Slice off the rounded ends of the cucumber. Use any random tool that you can come up with to remove the whole center part where the seeds are located. Then dig yourself out a bowl just like you would when making an apple pipe, making sure that the hole at the base of the bowl is not too large so it doesn't let the herb come through too easily.

***EDIT*** I have found that the most effective tool for carving out the inner guts is a skinner. Most likely you have one of these tucked away in your kitchen somewhere. It'll be a long C-curved sharp piece of metal with a handle. As long as you don't go find the largest cucumber available, you'll be able to dig out everything you need by going at it from both sides. ***END EDIT***

Pack your herb into the bowl, hit it and fill up the chamber where you removed the inner seed area. Make sure you cup your hand around the opposite end of the mouthpiece to create suction. When you've gotten enough smoke in the 'seed chamber', release your hand and clear it!

I find it to be a less harsh hit than an apple pipe. Of course, common sense would tell you to keep it in the fridge up until smoking. The cool vegetable matter will chill your smoke and make it more enjoyable.

Plus, you can chop it up and throw it in a munchie salad when you're through :-)

I am a huge advocate of the apple pipe. I wouldnt waste time putting a screen in an apple pipe, but to stop the ash just find a skinnier thing to poke holes with. A chopstick worked well for me. I had always had my eyes open for the perfect hole poking device and I found it one day in a chinese buffet. Try a chop stick.

I use tin foil and poke holes in it with a knife.... I just dont burn the tinfoil so I dont really care.....
