| Im going to try to get away with making one in my ceramics class at school, just make a tight ass vase, make a hole in it for the bowl, cover it with a very think layer of clay, and fire and glaze it, then just drill thru the hole, buy a female and a bowl, and hit that shit. my friend did that, and his bong hits like a tone of bricks....huge chamber

| Ok upon review I've changed my plan. I've decided to take 2 of the covers from 100 packs of DVDs and fusing them together, and putting a bowl in the top tube going down, and 4 tubes to hit. Will be good cause can put ice in it and stuff.

| That plastic is pretty thin.....not very durable, and may melt in the bowl area if it gets hot. I wouldn't recommend it. Melted plastic gives off harmful fumes.

| If you're worried about someone seeing your bong when you fire it, you can smoke-fire it. Here's how it works: Dig a pit deep enough so you'll be able to put your piece in it along with other combustible stuff (coal is good because it burns hot and slow). Put a bunch of flammable stuff in the bottom (wood chips, newspaper, coal, sawdust, whatever. you want it to burn for a few hours at least.). After your piece is completely air-dry (I mean COMPLETELY, this is important because if there's any water left your bong might crack while it's firing), wrap it up in a bunch of newspaper and set it in the pit with the rest of the stuff, and cover the whole thing with more flammable stuff and then cover it loosely with stones or something else non-flammable so the fire won't blow everywhere. Light it on fire and wait, keep an eye on it and make sure it stays lit. After the fire's burned out and cooled off, take your piece out. If it's got a somewhat even surface, you can polish it. Here's how to polish it: - take a small, smooth stone (like a river stone or something), a paper towel and some wood oil (like the citrusy kind that you put on the dining table before company comes). Using the paper towel, rub some of the oil (just a little!) on a small piece of the bong, and use the stone to polish it before the oil dries. It's best to polish it if at all possible because it provides another protective layer on the piece and it looks really nice. A polished, pit-fired piece looks almost like stone. If you want to glaze it, you can use underglazes (and they HAVE to be underglazes, not regular or raku glazes) BEFORE you fire it. I think you'll have to polish it afterwards if you put an underglaze on, though, so if the piece isn't right for polishing it's best to do it without a glaze. I'm not sure how long the modelling clays take to dry completely, but we always waited at least a few days. Hope this helped, or will help someone else ![]() |

| That's an interesting idea, though I'm not sure if it's feasible or not. Where I am there's a few inches of snow covering the ground, and the ground is mighty wet where it isn't. Thanks for the heads up troublemaker, I'll line the bowl with something, it's going to be removable anyways so it shouldn't be a problem. |

| i take a ceramics class at my school and it is totally possible to make a decent bong out of clay. one technique used to make the final product more durable is "high-fire glazing." these special glazes wont leave nasty residue so you could use for any purpose you like. they are fired in the kiln at super high temerpature making them much more sturdy than any air-drying clay. my only concern with air-drying clay is that it could dry with airbubbles, or it could be porous which would suck. anyway good luck, and dont make it too long on the neck cuz it will most likely collapse during the drying phase.

| I made an awesome "vase" in art class this year, we call it the volcano. The thing totally looks like a bong, and I even put a hole in the clay while it was wet, and said it was part of the design. I think my art teacher knew it was a bong, but didn't say anything about it. Anyway, it hits like a champ. ![]()

| Haha, I remember in my ceramics class about four years ago, our art teacher would drill holes in everything that could be used as a bong to render them useless. (as if those couldn't be covered up) You know, you could probably fire things in your backyard with a metal trash can and some wood or whatever... |
