there are only 2 types i know of, the kind you fill with water and let it stream out through a hole at the bottom or the kind you dip into a bucket of water. iv only tried the one when you fill it with water but i would think the bucket one would work better, seems like it would create a better suction, does it? And which method do you guys prefer?

theres one called a waterfall. i made one that lets the smoke filter through the water instead of just having the water pull the smoke. i got a gatorade bottle made a hole in the cap for my bong slide, made sure it was long enough to reach near the bottom of the bottle. make a fingertip size hole somewhere on the bottom easy to cover. fill the bottle up(hold the hole with your finger) load the bowl start letting the water slowly pour out as you light it, once the waters all outand the thick milky smoke is in the bottle, suck it all into your lungs.

we have tried things like this. to where the stem was attached to another tube, or in our case a long ass glass stem.

You can also use what we call a dry gravity...take an empty bread bag or newspaper bag and tape it airtight around the bottom of the cut off 2 liter, push the bag up into the bottom of the bottle to get the air out,
(do this before you pack the bowl) put the loaded bowlpiece on, and while someone lights the weed, someone else slowly pulls the bag out.
The cool thing about this is that you can use it anywhere, without worrying about spilling water.
This is usually a 2 person operation, but my cousin figured out a way to do it alone, something involving a string tied to the bag and his toes? I don't know...anyway, yall might want to try this if you haven't already.

I love that kind of gravity bong!!! My friend made one using a 3 liter bottle, it was so crazy. Not even the most seasoned professional smoker could handle a full chamber from that thing without coughing their ass off. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water...

After seing this thread, i am now inspired to use one of these things. Im gonna try to duct tape it to my bong, so i can get it full of smoke thats been filtered through water.

Yes, this is a very nice machine... but it is not a gravity bong. Since it doesn't incorporate gravity. You could use this device in outer space, so therefore it is not a gravity bong.

Around here we call those things lungs, and they are slendidlyishous. But to the poster above me, I have taken many 2 litre hits and not coughed.

But a gravity bong doesn't really use gravity, right? It uses suction? That's what I've always heard. But Im not very scientific, you're probably right

yea i never really thought that they used gravity except for the one that you fill with water and let it stream out through a hole. i geuss that is really the only real gravity bong and all the others are just similar and they had to call them somthing

As a kid in south GA we learned how to make earten bongs. Lots of red clay and plenty of time. edit= I don't mean a clay bong, I mean dig a hole in the ground and let in dry then fill w/water.....few bamboo shoots)

Anyone heard of this or shall I explain the workings?

We also use to take 3 liter coke bottle out into lake and use the lake water to power or gravity bong. Float aronu on a potoon raft and drink and get high in th 100 degrees. Then jump in the water and cool off.........yeaaaaaah
