are there certain types of woods that cannot be used to make a wooden pipe? what wood would work the best? will the smoke taste like wood? i was thinking that i would just use a 2x4 and cut it to size. i just dont want to use compresed wood or something like that because i heard its bad. any ideas on how to make a good wooden pipe?!?! THANKS!

i made a pipe from a random dead peice of wood in my yard.you could taste the wood and it was pretty harsh but still sweet. I wouldnt use any wood thats been treated with chemicals so try going more natural.

like wood from a tree out in the woods? haha could i use a big branch? the wood would have to be fresh tho right?

it depends on what tools you have to make it.I had a grinder and a drill press.ive never tried carving one though

i just found a dry dead stick about 3 inches in diameter(wide) and cut it down to the right lenth, sanded it with a grinder to the right shape then drilled a big hole for the bowl and a small one leading to it. then i just sanded it with fine sandpaper.

edit: i think the wood i used was pine

Natural wood would be the best, but if its fresh you probably wanna let it dry out alteast a little bit, like if the insides are moist to the touch or green.

Ash or maple would probaly work good.

Man, me and my bro actually chopped down a small tree to make a large steam roller. It was very fresh so i caould actually taste the tree; it was also very harsh. I didn't like it too much but it was still a piece... a 2 foot piece so that was nice.

Most fruit trees, (even crab apple trees) make good pipes. I would use slightly dried fresh wood from trees.

DO NOT USE PRESSURE TREATED 2X4S!!!!!!! These give off toxic fumes when burned. Stay away man.

yeah i think that fruit trees would be good, but i have used some pieces of scrap wood to make pipes, and they really worked pretty well, i just used a hand drill and carefully drilled a chamber hole, then used a spade bit to drill the bowl piece. Then i drilled a shotgun (carb) into the side. I sanded it all down and used a rasp to shape it. And i used a dremel tool with a sanding thingy on it to sand, especially inside the bowl.
