after my last bong broke iv been too cheap to buy another one, so what i did was got a coke bottle and put some cheap metal bat in it. if u think about it a bat is pretty much the same as a stem and bowl piece. seems like a nice way to turn a bat into a bong

i also use those mini 12oz plastic coke bottles they sell..perfect for a compact small bong

Yea, Id say that probably does work pretty well. I realize it takes an effort that you probably dont want to give, but I dont think downstems cost much at all. Maybe 5-10 bucks... just a thought.

probably because making your own piece means youre too cheap to buy your own and youre too much of a fiend to care if you own a nice piece or not.

Not everyone has the financial ability to go and buy a piece.
When I travelled a lot for work, I often didn't take a piece wiht me and resorted to the soda can pipe.

Grranted, most homemade smoking devices do look pretty ghetto-macgyger-ish. However, I've known sever people that make their own smoking devices that are impressive pieces of work. Case and point is the Aunt Jemima bong a friend of mine made many years ago.

I have a friend who makes awesome home-made pieces. He literally turned his coffee table into a smoking device, complete with pokers, ashtrays, etc....and, to the naked eye, its nothing more than a coffee table! he's also made bongs that glow in the dark, light up, etc. He often comments "If only I could use my powers for good!!" I told him he definitely has a career lined up if its ever legalized. He's made pipes I'd definitely pay for........Someday, i'll see if he minds me taking some pics of the awesomeness that is his coffee table! it is truely an ingenious design!

I often use a similar concept (as the bat) for my Coke bottle bongs but I use salt shaker lids, the pointy cone-like type. heat the bottle, shove in the cap, make a choke, BAM bong in under 30 seconds. Plus you can stick those lids in almost anything and turn it into a bong. I like to spend time on some homemade bongs, take pride, with enough effort you can make a better bong than so many cheap-o leaky "professionally" made pieces. Also, JB-weld or plumber's putty work famously for sealing the cap to the body.
