First off, this is my first post. Hello Everybody!

In the past few days I sought out to make a water pipe that is easy to hide through disassembly. I have created a device that not only is very functional but it also breaks down into very many parts that would not appear to be used for anything mischievous, which is a great thing for stoners with parents. It is a very durable device and comes at a fairly low price. It costs around 20 dollars to make and access to a power drill is recommended.

Here is a picture of what parts are required for this:

The sizes depend on what you can find and what your preferences are.

You will need:

O-Ring (4)
Nylon Hose (About 4 feet)
Jar w/ Thin Metal Lid
Flanged Hose Attachments - I don't know the official name to these, but there are pictures below
A nut to match the thread of one of the hose attachments.
A nut that accepts threads into each side of the nut so you can connect two male threads
Perhaps a washer or two.
Screen [not pictured]
A piece that threads into your dual sided nut that will accept a larger thread. Again, do not know the name of this peice, but it is fairly common.

I found all of the things besides the jar at the local hardware store.
I found the jar at Fred Meyer for 3.99

Make sure that all of your hardware is compatible with eachother. For example make sure that the hose you buy isn't to small to fit your hose attachment peice. Yet, make sure it isn't too big or else it will not fit snugly. Also make sure that your nuts fit the hose attachments and your O-rings fit as well.

If anyone is confused on this male/female threaded adapter thingy, here is a drawn picture of it. I will try to identify it in the other pictures as well. In picture at the top of the post, it is peice that is at the top most portion of the picture (above the hoses). It is copper colored. This will be your bowl.



Once you have all of your components, you are going to want access to a power drill. You want to drill 3 holes. Two being where your stem and bowl will fit into, and the other being your carb. Here is a picture of what mine looks like.


As you can see two holes are larger than the other. These two holes are slightly larger than the threads to my hose attachments. This is so that they can slip right through the holes and be secured on the other side. The hole for your carb cannot be too big or it will be hard to block.

Make sure your holes are big enough to accept the threads but not too large to where your hardware would fall through if you weren't holding it.

Hopefully these pictures are enough to show you how to assemble the lid.


Once you have this assembled, it should feel solid and sturdy. There should also be no way for air to escape once you have screwed the lid onto the jar except from the bowl, the car, and the hose attachment.

With your hose that you bought you want to cut a few inches off (your preference) and slip it on the hose attachment that is on the bottom side of the lid. This will be partially submerged in water once you fill up the jar.

With the remaining hose, you can attach it to the hose attachment on the top. From this hose you will draw the smoke out of the jar with your lungs.

Here is a picture of the two contigents of hardware screwed together without the lid. You can clearly see the two black o-rings on each peice. The lid would dividing these two o-rings

Once you have your hoses attached, fill the jar up with water until an inch or two of the hose is submerged (more if you'd like). Load up the bowl and let her rip.

You could build that for a lottttttt cheaper than 20$... for that price might's well buy a real pipe.

I should say that 20 dollars is a maximum.

The point of the peice is that if your parents search your room and find a glass pipe in the shape of a mushroom, you are pretty much garenteed to get busted. If they find a nut or a clear nylon hose in your room, it is much easier to get around, assuming that you don't leave the peice fully assembled in your room. I think you could pull this off for just over 10 dollars.

Wow! Rarely do I see such detailed description of an idea. I must say its a refreshing change to poorly made ASCII art....

Looks like you have a pretty good idea there, with excellent quality construction (no duct tape!!) Although I'm not too sure about the practicality of taking the whole thing apart to hide it from your parents.

I would just buy a small pipe, and keep it well hidden. But thats not to say that this isn't a good idea, it looks good, and seems as though it would hit fairly well.

Just be sure the metal you are using does not release harmful toxins when heated!

Well not only is it to hide. If you wanted it to just be a pipe than you could just take the bowl and the pieces it connects to and make it a pipe. The point is also to have a cool hit, which has been tested and approved with this apparatus.

I like it - I'm not sure that I would make one, but I do like it.

One way you could also do this would be to buy a slide and bowl from your local head shop, and use those for the bowl assembly.

This would be slightly more conspicuous, but assuming that you can hide that part really well, it would be healthier than smoking out of metal (all metal releases some fumes when heated).

Good idea, but you forgot that all these pieces are going to smell strongly of MJ smoke if the piece has been used, making them less conspicious.

Nice. I might make one, good instructions too. Prob the best I've seen on this site.

Good instructions, thanks for sharing. I like how easily another bowl or hose could be added. A double hosed, double bowl homemade water piece. You could even get another jar and have a tube running from the first into the second and have a double bubbler. It would be a little hard to carry, nothing duct tape can't help!
