| Now I don't like smoking out of "dry pipes" and my bong is a bit to bulky to take out under certain conditions or when on a trip. I knew I was going to have to get myself a good bubbler for just such actions. The problem is that there are no near by glass shops to get one at. I remembered a clay that could be hardened by baking in a normal home oven. I went to my local walmart and sure enough I found Sculpey clay. I couldn't wait to take it home and come up with some cool bubbler design. At first I came up with some elaborate "frog on a mushroom" design were you would puff from the frogs mouth which would be sitting on a short fat shroom which is actually the water chamber, and lit the bowl which was at the of a skinny shroom with a removable top. This way I could leave it out looking like an ornamental piece.... Well that was the plan... however my clay sculpting skills were not what I remembered from back in high school. So I decided to make it more simple and practical instead. This is the beauty I came up with....... ![]() ![]() After I broke it.... it was actually tough to break. ![]() base... ![]() "down pipe" ![]() bowl ![]() how it all comes together. ![]() Taking the first hit was exciting and I was quite proud since it was a great hit with the well known "bubbling sound" that bobblers are known for. The disappointing part came about 4 hits into it when I started tasting the nasty taste of... well the closest thing I can describe it to is burning plastic or rubber. It turns out that the clay is mostly made up of fine rubber like powder that is only low heat resistant. I truly was sad to find out that my new baby was useless ![]() Oh well, It was worth the try... Maybe I'll get myself a small kiln and bake myself a true clay bubbler, but for now I'll order one of the net or pick one up next time I'm in the city.... Now has anybody on here made there own true clay pipe, and if so did you glaze it, and how did it compare to a glass piece? Hope this was informative for all. |

| Cool idea, surprised it didnt work. Maybe if you glaze them they are more resistant to heat? I wonder if you made a bowl with a glass slide going into the clay pipe would work...?

| I was thinking of the same thing of using a glass slide from a glass shop, and making my own bubbler piece out of the sculpy for it, since the sculpy will not come in direct contact with the heat.... If I find the time to do it, i'll post the results... in the mean time, for any one that wants to try it feel free to tell us what you came up with. |
