I guess I am kind of ignorant, but at least I can spell 'you're'. I dont know much at all about Canadian comics, I was just kind of talkin sh*t, but my point was that I know there's still a lot more and better American comics than there are Canadians. It's a fact, don't try to debate it.

You get that from your big book of facts?

I don't think my countries the best. I would much rather live in Switzerland(if that's how you spell it) or Holland. We're all better than America to live in.

And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?"

Definitely not debating THAT (of course, I'd rather live in a liberal European country as well), BUT HELL YEA, I got that (American comedy > Canadian comedy) from my Big Book of Facts, bet!

I wonder if I am in the minority here, or just if those with opinions like mine generally keep 'em to themselves, but I like it here in the US. Do I like ALL facets of life in America? Not at all. I really do not like my government's policies in Iraq, and I am obviously not a fan of the laws concerning pot and other drugs, and I'm sure there are a bunch of other policies I could rant and rave about, without question. However, as far as day to day life, opportunities, safety (that's right, I said safety), locations, standards of living, and long-term quality of life, we're doing pretty damn good.

With just a bit of determination, hard work, and a plan, I still believe that anything is possible. I came from a lower-middle class household (both parents were immigrants), went through the public school system, went to a state university paid for by student loans, financial aid, and whatever else I could scrape together from various jobs, and have earned just about everything that I call my own. I have had jobs that I love for the last 4 years, all commissioned sales positions. (I sell A/V equipment.) I started a cover band with a few friends and, after a year or so of LOTS of practice and very few gigs, bars paid us good money to play songs we like to anywhere from 30-600 people on average. I don't make a ton of money, but I use what I do make wisely, and am a lot more financially sound than a lot of people who make more money and piss even more away.

Am I lucky to be in the position I am in? Sure. Its tough to complain about growing up in Boston, and I've stayed here for many reasons, some of which have saved my life in the past. I was in a pretty nasty car accident 9 years ago, and without the world-renowned trauma unit in Mass. General, I'd probably be dead now. I can drive a few hours in winter to some great mountains for skiing (Aspen its not, but VT ain't bad a'tall), beaches in the summer, unbelievable scenery in the fall, even to a very friendly neighbor up North. (Nothing like a Bruins-Canadiens game in the Forum when it was still around, but the Bell Centre is still cool). I've been up and down the east coast, a bit of the mid-west, parts of the southwest, and would love to get to the rest of it in due time, and am convinced that if you cannot find a place that suits you well enough, then you need to look a little harder and work a bit harder, and eventually you will find a great place to live. Seek and ye shall find. A good life will not be handed to you here, despite what pop culture may say.

How good do we have it here? People are outraged about the price of gasoline right now. Its almost $1.80 by me right now. Oh, the horrors!!! Really, now, a 20 oz bottle of Snapple costs that much. People pay that much for bottled water. WATER! I took care of this problem when I bought my car. As much as I'd like to drive a big pick-up, I bought a Honda to avoid this problem. If it were more available at the time, I would have bought a hybrid.

By all guesses, I'm gonna live longer than any previous generation did. I'm gonna live safer than any other, because most diseases are treatable or preventable, crime is consistantly on a downward trend in my area, workplaces are safer than many other industrialized countries, and if I so choose, I can purchase a gun to defend my house and family, if I am so inclined. (Yes, even a Democrat such as me can support the right to bear arms.) I can't legally smoke pot, but I sure can (and do) actively try to change the laws that make that so. That said, with just a little bit of common sense and a few precautions, I have smoked for years and years without any trouble from the law. I believe the applicable laws can and will be changed in my lifetime, because the current administration is only temporary, like all elected administrations, the pendulum will swing our way soon enough, and we WILL change the laws in our lifetime.

Are there a lot of injustices and abuses and generally horrible things that occur in my country? Of course there is. Thats what happens when you take a good size chunk of land and throw over a quarter of a billion people in there. Do I firmly believe that the good parts of our nation outweigh the bad? Absolutely.

And I will continue to do all I can to make it an even better place.

BTW, I thought the joke was pretty good.

I honestly don't know if you're in a minority or not...I personally think that a lot of it is born out of envy...a lot is born out of ignorance...and of course there is always the fact that we (U.S. citizens) have gotten so spoiled that we don't realize all the good that happens every day to many many people in this country, just because of the fact that they live in this country.

I just like coming to this thread to think up new countries that are "the best".
It's a silly measuring contest that is not grounded in reality.

Kuwait!!! That's it...No one can beat Kuwait!!! Rah rah rah.

Vatican City, lowest crime rate I'm sure, hahaha. And it's its own country, technically!

Yea, I didnt mean ANY European country instead of America, but maybe Holland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland... If I could speak any of those languages. I definitely agree with DonkeyPunch though, and the "People not liking America besides Mexicans" is the most ignorant thing I've heard in awhile.

Go up to any hispanic/latino on a job site and ask them their opinion about having the opportunity of living here. Besides, who's been immigrating here for the past 200 years? Europeans, Asians, and Latin Americans primarily. Sorry to de-rail the thread.
