Because you can commit murder and get a fraction of that sentence. And then shouldn't they prosecute drug companies for making morphine because it requires opium? It's just the fed picking on little people because they can.

Because it isn't against the law for them to process opium and sell morphine for a profit? If the dispensary operators had followed California law and not made $9,000,000 in profits over two years, they wouldn't have been prosecuted, either. California law requires that dispensaries be non-profit businesses. Only a few of them actually are.
