| Hi everyone, Ive never smoked anything in my whole life, and I just have been having super anxiety attacks over some bad health info I received. I felt so crappy being all pilled up on Oxazepam that I decided to try weed for the first time. Im not sure im doing it right because I dont really feel what I thought being high would feel like. I feel focused and relaxed like I felt after 3 or 4 beers. Is this normal? I'm using a bong btw w/ some mj called Mean Green. Any advice or tips would be totally appreciated. Thanks for reading. | If you are experiencing "super anxiety attacks", the last thing you want to do is to start smoking marijuana. It will most likely make things worse. One of the common things that happens to beginners is panic attacks, which are anxiety attacks carried to the next level. Not something that anyone without a strong masochistic streak would want to experience. I hear a lot more about marijuana causing anxiety than relieving it.

| Buzz, I don't think this person is having Panic or anxiety Attacks due to the weed or even due to the medication use. I read it that he is nervous & upset over new information regarding his health problem. The medication he was prescribed isn't helping in the manner he expected, so he is trying marijuana. I also read that the marijuana is helping, but the OP wants to know if the "high" he is describing is a "normal" high. My husband feels more focused and seems to be a bit more productive & has more energy when high. He is less tired and more motivated to accomplish his "to do list" than when he is not high (oh, and he grins more often ).IF that helps... By the way; Hello RobMc88. Welcome to the boards |

Personal opinion, if you're very stressed you should take it easy on trying marijuana. Make sure that you're in a relaxed, comfortable environment with people you can trust (if toking with people - if you're not social it's not a requirement). If you're using marijuana to replace Oxazepam you should definitely consult a doctor. You should also make 100% sure that marijuana does relieve the anxiety symptoms, because if it doesn't, you'll need something to fall back on. And remember, anxiety is often brought on by 'overthinking' something that upsets you, this is easier to do when you're high, because it's often difficult for newcomers to control their trains of thought. Just remember, you're in control. Try for 1 hit every 5 to 10 minutes until you determine your tolerance. Quote:

EDIT: Ok, you looked up the medication and it apparently is prescribed normally for anxiety. This is precisely why we try not to discuss other drugs on the forums. We are not experts. The best thing to do is discuss it with your doctor as Trocisp says. IF the marijuana helps where the prescribed medication is not quite what you are looking for in a treatment, then be sure to mention this to your doctor as well.

I'm glad I have the forum here to ask without sounding like a total dork. Rob |

Some people get more focused and energetic when high, but the majority are affected in exactly the opposite way: get high, zone out, fall asleep.

| Hey Rob and welcome to the forums! The whole point in smoking right, is to inhale(unlike Bill Clinton and how he smoked it) It's about inhaling as much smoke as possible into you're lungs. That's pretty much is it. As far as smoking it with anxiety, results vary from person to person. My mom has severe anxiety, and she smokes daily to ease her symptoms. |
