Default Hey there from Ontario, Canada

Hi everyone.

My name is Alison Myrden and I am one of the most vocal Drug Reform Activist's in Canada and across North America.

I carry one of the largest prescriptions - "Licenses" in Canada for cannabis, which allows me to grow over one hundred plants for my personal medical needs. (I have suffered from chronic progressive multiple sclerosis from the age of thirteen years old and am now forty-four).

I have also been battling an excruciating pain in my face twenty four hours a day for almost sixteen years without much relief. This pain is called tic douloureux and is known as the "worst pain known to medicine". The painting "The Scream" by Edward Munch was based on the pain I live with daily...

If I don't have access to copious amounts of cannabis (I eat it in cookies, drink it in tea and smoke it around the clock upwards of thirty cigarettes of just cannabis a day) I have to resort to over thirty-two pills a day and up to two THOUSAND milligrams of morphine everyday and have done this for the last sixteen years.

Check out my website at The Medical Marijuana Mission Home and see just what we've been up to in Canada. With over 14 million visits to our website under our belt, we KNOW there is a need for us to stay vocal!

I am also a retired Law Enforcement Officer and the Leading Female speaker for LEAP - Law Enforcement Against Prohibition found at LEAP - Cops Say

Just thought I would take a minute and reintroduce myself as It has been a while since I was here last...

Please everyone, do YOUR part today!

Hope everyone is groovy like always...

Love and a squish,

Alison Myrden

Glad to have you around Alison! I hope you post more often , we could certainly use more people like you around!

I am sorry to hear about your pain, but I am also glad that marijuana helps alleviate some of it. It's too bad you have to take such a high dose of morphine just to live normally

I hope to see you around the boards I'm sure you have a lot of wisdom to share (and we'd love to hear it!)

By the way, I didn't know The Scream had anything to do with 'pain'... I'm still not entirely sure it is. Everything I learned in Art, History and Psychology class all said it had to do with existential angst:

From Munchs Diary
"I was walking along a path with two friends—the sun was setting—suddenly the sky turned blood red—I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence—there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city—my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety—and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature. "

Anyways, welcome (back) to the boards!

Existentialism has it's most basic roots in human angst,
ergo the "Scream" manifestation.
I can but only imagine how it would be the perfect metaphor for what Alison is dealing with,

"The Scream" was painted in the end of the 19th century, and is possibly the first Expressionist painting. The Scream was very different from the art of the time, when many artists tried to depict objective reality. Munch was a tortured soul, and it certainly showed in this painting. Most of his family had died, and he was often plagued by sickness. The Scream was not a reflection of what was going on at the time, but rather, Munch’s own "inner hell." It visualizes a desperate aspect of fin-de-siècle: anxiety and apocalypse. The percussiveness of the motif shows that it also speaks to our day and age"*

I meant physical pain.

The Scream symbolizes the mental agony one gets when trying to understand life and the universe. Not necessarily just physical pain as Alison said, but not necessarily strictly implied either.

Therefor I could argue it isn't based, but inspired upon the 'pain' we all feel and 'live with daily' and is really nothing more than typical human feelings. I experience this 'pain' daily, hehe and marijuana helps alleviate it too.

(Sorry to derail, it was interesting subject. I don't mean to belittle you Alison or your condition or anyone elses for that matter )

Thank you all... I also believe that many of us suffer unbearable pain that is helped by things such as cannabis. By no means was I intending to minimize anyone else's pain by my statement that tic douloureux is written in medical Journals and thought to be "the worst pain known to medicine."

I don't wish pain on anyone, especially continuous, non-stop pain like some of us experience.

Thanx to everyone for your sweet words. I'm happy you remember me. My health has been SOO erratic lately that is one reason I haven't been around....

BUT - I'm back now!

Thanx for the warm welcome back guys... and the love and squishes... LOL

Love and a HUGE Squish to all of you,

Alison
