| Hi Im new and I have a question :] Didn't know where else to ask this, but I have been smoking for like...2 years and when I started I looked some facts online. There were some about how weed smoke is worse for you then cigarette smoke. And that it increases the risk of heart attack and stuff. Is all that true? |

| Absolutely not. Here is but one many articles available if you do a search on the net or, if you like, right here - Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection - washingtonpost.com And then of course there is Marijuana Law Reform - NORML . . .

| Welcome to the boards, hopeless... you'll find you've come to the right place for knowledge. To the questions of marijuana's impact to the lungs compared to cigarettes, the answer is, as so often the case turns out to be, yes and no. Bud smoke does contain more carcinogens in number than cigarette smoke. However, there are several mitigating factors. One is that it's rare to find someone smoking twenty joints a day. Another is that, while it has more carcinogens, it lacks the high number of free radicals that cigarette smoke contains. The simple fact of the matter is, there has never been a documented case of cancer that could be solely and directly linked to smoking marijuana (you can take it even easier on your lungs and vape or cook instead, at which point the carcinogens don't have any effect. The carcinogens are the side-effect of combusting the weed). And, technically, yes, smoking marijuana CAN increase your risk of having a heart attack if you are already predisposed. Smoking weed will raise your heart rate, though not nearly enough to be of any concern to the average person. One could say that it increases the chances of someone with a heart condition having a heart attack as much as sudden excitement or surprise could. I'm not the most informed person here, though I like to think that, by and large, I know more about the science of marijuana than any of the smokers I've met face to face, and I do know a fair amount. But there are people here that are veritable encyclopedias of herb lore who will be able to answer your questions far more fully than I ever could. Again, welcome to the boards... hope you enjoy your stay ![]() EDIT- and you know, now that I think of it, I seem to recall recently reading the original study through a link on here that actually said that they were comparing the marijuana LEAF to cigarettes, not the bud, which is what you actually smoke and, due to lower levels of cellulose, doesn't burn the same way and has less carcinogens in the smoke... if I find where it was, I'll link you.
