I don't smoke pot but joined the forum because my son does. He actually hasn't in awhile because he can't. I got him in trouble and he's on probation. I know he'll go back to it even though he's off almost two yrs. He's psychologically addicted to pot and to just getting a high. I'm curious if anyone in this forum thinks their smoking is affecting them in a negative way.

We have a lot of people who show up here trying to figure out a way to pass a drug test because they've been smoking while on probation.

You must have a very skewed idea of the dangers of marijuana if you turned in your own child. The most dangerous thing about marijuana is the possibility of getting involved with the criminal justice system. His marijuana conviction will haunt him the rest of his life. I got one 37 years ago and am still banned from certain activities because of it, even though my record was "expunged".

The biggest negative was getting busted in 1970. Second is that pot is too damned expensive - because it's illegal.

Pot is a recreational drug. Most people who use it integrate it into their lives without any problems at all. A small number of users have addictive personalities, which means that they'll form a bad relationship with any psychoactive drug. If your son is one of these, he could probably use some counseling - not prosecution. He's much better off than someone whose drug-of-choice is alcohol.

I hope you haven't permanently ruined your relationship with your son by ratting him out to the cops. I'd find that very hard to forgive.

But given that normandy didn't say specifically that he turned his son in to the police it seems presumptuous to assume so and then skewer him for it.

You say often enough here that you're not a mind reader.
