I was an avid smoker during my later high school years and during my first stint in college. I've been 4 years removed from the culture due to a stint in the US Military and am just now getting back into my herbal groove. I figured that this would be a good place to get re-acclimated. Everyone seems quite friendly and knowledgeable, so here it goes! One question I do have, right off the bat, is regarding an issue my girlfriend has. She is interested in trying mj to help with some nausea issues she has but she's sensitive to the smoke/heat. Can anyone make some recommendations to overcome this or point me to a pertinent forum topic? I can't afford to invest in a good vaporisor right now but I wonder if a bong would help enough with the heat to do the trick. Any thoughts? ![]()

The other option is eating weed, but if she has a nausea problem, that probably wouldn't be of much help.

Hmmmm, $130 might be feasible in the near future. I'm starting to think cooking might be an option. I'm a little apprehensive about that since I don't have any real experience regarding cooking with herb. A good, simple, tasty recipe just might be what the doc ordered. Thanks, Buzzby.

The easiest way to get into cooking with weed is to make cannabutter or cannaoil and use it as you would ordinary butter or oil in a recipe. Instructions on how to make them can be found in our Culinary forum. A word of caution: it's easy to get too much weed when you eat it. A portion should contain no more than three times the amount it would take to get high smoking the same weed. Too much could freak her out and turn her away from weed entirely.

| The thing with bongs is that yes they do make the smoke smoother and easier to take down. Because of this, people take the hugest hits possible. Bongs lead to a lot of coughing. I guess if you limit your wife to only taking a little bit of smoke, it could work alright. Hot, steaming water is more soothing than cold water, also. I don't really understand why your girlfriend can't just smoke? Good for her that she hasn't smoked anything in her life, but there's a first for everything. She might cough a bit, but it's not going to be anything like a cigarette. My friends who only smoke bud and no cigarettes (I hope to join their ranks soon - New Years Resolution) don't seen like "smokers" at all. They have no morning cough, no raspy voice, or anything like that. With their lungs so healthy compared to the smokers, they can take the hugest hits.... If it really is too much, the vape would be the best. We have a Vaporizer forum on here that can further help you.... Welcome to the site ![]()

Welcome Tigre. Hope you stick around. New members are always welcome. I can identify with the smoke sensitivity. With me it's been too much smoke through the years. I grew to hate the process and smoked less and less. I then discovered vaporizing and I'm in love again. A cheaper alternative to the Vaporwarez Buzzby is referring to is the VaporGenie. Although not as easy to use or as satisfying as a electric powered vape, the Genie is about one third the price and can be a useful portable vape even after moving up to a nice AC model. The Genie is basically a pipe with a ceramic filter. The ceramic soaks up the heat from a lighter and transfers it to your weed. As long as you're careful to avoid applying too much heat, you get vapor instead of smoke. Many people use this simple vape successfully. I own the Genie as well as other electric models and I can assure you it works well if you're careful and patient. Whether you try the Genie or save up for a electric model, I urge you to try vaping if smoke is a problem for your friend. It's a whole different world vs. smoking. And unlike cooking, vaping allows you to conserve your weed. ![]()

Buzzby is correct about buying a vape, you really should look at it as an investment rather than a purchase. The bud you'll save in the long run will far outweigh the initial costs, not to mention the improved taste and lack of smoke. I've become somewhat proficient in cooking with cannabis, everyone here is right in that you don't want to "dive in" when it comes to ingestion. A little extra bud can mean the difference between a mellow body high and an intense knock down high. The best method I've found to portion an edible dose is to know how much cannabis you want in a portion of cannabutter (which is the only thing I cook with). For me a portion is how much cannabutter I put on a piece of toast or an english muffin, which is right around a tablespoon. I like to eat just two pieces of either so I make sure I have .5-.75g worth of high grade cannabis in each portion/tablespoon of cannabutter. My recommendation would be to start at lower concentrations to allow yourself to find what works best for you. I would start with about 4g of high grade cannabis per cup (16 tablespoons) of butter. After following the directions for making cannabutter (I recommend the double boiler method, foolproof), you should have a finished product with about .25g worth of cannabis per tablespoon of cannabutter. Allow at least 2 hours after ingestion to get the full effects, deciding after an hour that you don't feel anything and should eat more usually backfires a couple hours later. Also you should be aware that the peak effects of ingesting cannabis last much longer than smoking. Personally I've felt sky high on one dose for about 4 hours, unless it's late, in which case I usually hit the sack (seems to be a great insomnia remedy) less than an hour after feeling the effects. Any questions feel free to ask. ![]()
